As per yesterday a bright start with cloud building and heavy showers in the afternoon.
Sea-watches: 0715-1045, 1420-1520

Present were the Black Brant was at Long Bank with the Brent flock, 262 Wigeon, 1 Merlin, 4 Coot, 200 Grey Plover, 1 Kingfisher along Peter Lane and 1 Song Thrush.

On the move were 2 Eider, 8 Common Scoter, 214 Red-throated Diver, 2 Gannet, 3 Cormorant, 22 Common Gull, 137 Herring Gull, 12 Great Black-backed Gull and 1 Razorbill.

Ringing: 1 Dunnock, 1 Blue Tit, 1 Tree Sparrow

Sunny spells with heavy showers occasionally prolonged and a strong F4-6 SSW wind.
Sea Watches: 0715-1045, 1400-1530.

The Black Brant was still with 1 Pale-bellied Brent Goose and 750 Brents in the long bank area, while the Kilnsea Wetlands area held 400 Wigeon, 4 Gadwall , male Pintail and 6 Teal. Other bits of interest were 1 Short-eared Owl, 1 Barn Owl and 3 Stonechat.

The sea was poor after a good few days with 4 Common Scoter, 1 Goosander, 153 Red-throated Diver, 1 Gannet and Auk sp.

Ringing: 1 Blue Tit, 2 Great Tit.

The odd shower with sunny spells and a strong F4-6 SW wind.
Sea Watches: 0700-1015.

Another 140 Pink-footed Geese went NW, 2 Common Scoter, 1 Goosander, a Red-necked Grebe, 75 Red-throated Diver, 5 Gannet, 1 Cormorant, adult Mediterranean Gull, 110 Common Gull, 150 Herring Gull with many appearing to come in from the east, 10 Auk sp, 4 Guillemot and 3 Razorbill.
Other bits of interest were 8 Greylags in the triangle, 400 Brent Geese with 2 Pale-bellied Brent, 220 Shelduck, a ringtail Hen Harrier, 350 Wood Pigeon, 1 Short-eared Owl, 4 Coot back on canal scrape, 8 Robin and 1 Stonechat.

The Pallid Harrier continued to perform at Welwick.

Windy with heavy showers all day F5-6 WNW wind.
Sea Watches: 0710-1110, 1400-1630.
The start of the big European fishing match. 

On the move over the sea were 108 Pink-footed Geese heading NW, 1 Eider, 14 Common Scoter, 1 Red-breasted Merganser, 347 Red-throated Diver, 2 Fulmar, 27 Gannet, 2 Cormorant, 1 Shag, Lesser Black-backed Gull, 1st winter Glaucous Gull, 2 Kittiwake and 111 Auk sp.

Other bits of interest were the Black Brant with 1 Pale-bellied Brent and 750 Brents at Long Bank and 3 Stonechat.

Sunny spells with occasional cloud less windy with a F3-2 W wind.
Migration Watches: 0730-1105.

Moving were 1 Long-tailed Duck, 2 Common Scoter, 2 Goldeneye, 46 Red-throated Diver, 14 Gannet, 1 Cormorant, 9 Auk sp and 3 Guillemot.

Other interesting sightings were 31 Greylag Goose, 660 Brent Geese plus the usual Black Brant, 850 Knot on the Humber, 14 Black-tailed Godwit, a 1st winter Iceland Gull on the Humber by the tank blocks, 2 Stonechat in Clubleys while Reed Bunting are starting to move with 16 near long bank.

Ringing: 1 Robin, 2 BlueTit, 1 Great Tit, 1 House Sparrow, 2 Chaffinch, 1 Goldfinch (8 of 6 species).

A very windy day with Storm Doris passing through bringing heavy rain in the afternoon and a F6-9 NW wind.
Sea Watch: 0730-1130, 1530-1645.

Sightings were the Black Brant, 2 Pale-bellied Brents with 750 Brent Geese on Long Bank Marsh where 120 Shelduck were also present.

On the move over the sea were 2 Wigeon, 6 Common Scoter, 35 Red-throated Diver, 9 Fulmar, 41 Gannet, 1 Shag and 85 Kittiwake.

The numbers of Divers remained high offshore.

Sightings were the Black Brant and 1 Pale-bellied Brent with the Brent Geese flock, Peregrine and Merlin hunting over the sea chasing a Meadow Pipit and 1 Goldcrest in Easington.

On the move over the sea were 1 Wigeon, 4 Common Scoter, 439 Red-throated Diver, 2 Great-crested Grebe, 1 Fulmar, 66 Gannet, 29 Black-headed Gull, 53 Common Gull, 81 Herring Gull, 1 Kittiwake, 354 Auk sp, 25 Guillemot, 32 Razorbill and 2 Puffin.

Sightings were the Black Brant, 3 Pale-bellied Brents with 680 Brent Geese, 400 Wigeon, 4 Gadwall, Scaup Beacon Ponds, 8 Goldeneye, Peregrine and Merlin hunting over the Humber, 1 Greenshank, female Stonechat and 4 Long-tailed Tit in Easington.

On the move over the sea were 9 Common Scoter, 57 Red-throated Diver, 6 Gannet, 3 Cormorant, 64 Auk sp, 4 Guillemot and 6 Razorbill.

Cloudier but still nice and sunny and a F1 SW wind.
Migration Watches: 0705-1120.

The first signs of spring with some passerine movement and Frogs and Newts in the pond at Kew. A great day was had by all with huge amounts of work done at Kew which will hopefully benefit the garden in the long term.

More interest over the sea with 2 Shelduck, 2 Eider, 10 Velvet Scoter, 430 Red throated Diver, 1 Great Northern Diver, 2 Cormorant, Purple Sandpiper , 3 Little Gull, 47 Auk sp and 8 Razorbill.
Other birds of note were the Black Brant with 1 Pale bellied Brent with the Brent Geese, 357 Wigeon, 1 Gadwall, 23 Teal, Scaup and 8 Goldeneye Beacon Ponds, 2 Jack Snipe, 8 Snipe, 1 Greenshank, female Stonechat Warren, 2 Chiffchaff Easington while overland 57 Lapwing, 5 Skylark, 2 Jackdaw, 3 Goldfinch and 2 Linnet south and 4 Meadow Pipit in off.

A sunny day with cloudy spells and a F1 SW wind.
Migration Watches: 0730-1045, 1345-1500.

Lots of work done on the first day of the work weekend with tree planting, fruit tree pruning, tree removal in the caravan site and long overdue work in maintaining the garden at Kew.
Still quiet over the sea with 2 Canada Geese, 1 Eider, 14 Common Scoter, 1 Red breasted Merganser, 30 Red throated Diver, 51 Common Gull, 31 Black headed Gull and 1 Kittiwake.
Other birds of note were the Black Brant with 542 Brent Geese Humber, 700 Wigeon, 3 Little Egret, 1 Avocet, 140 Lapwing, 1 Short eared Owl, 5 Song Thrush and 750 Starling.

A nice calm winters day with a F1 wind.
Migration Watches: 0730-1040.

Some great numbers of wildfowl remained in the area at Kilnsea wetlands and Beacon ponds.

Quiet over the sea with 94 Red throated Diver, Great Northern Diver, 7 Cormorant, adult Mediterranean Gull, 62 Black headed Gull and 2 Auk sp.
Other birds of note were 1 Pale bellied Brent with 300 Brent Geese Humber, 330 Shelduck, 362 Wigeon, 3 Gadwall, 1 Peregrine Humber, 1 Woodcock Obs, 190 Curlew, 1 Short eared Owl and a Rock Pipit while on the move were 4 Skylark, 1 Jackdaw and 1 Rook.

Ringing: 1 Dunlin, 1 Robin, 1 Goldfinch.

Heavy overnight rain cleared to leave a cold cloudy day F1-3 W wind.
Sea Watches: 0730-1045.

The Welwick Pallid Harrier visited Spurn again today going as far as the Warren before slowly returning west. This bird has been present since last autumn and seen virtually daily at Welwick saltmarsh along with a few Hen and Marsh Harriers, Merlin and Short-eared Owls.

2 Barnacle Geese remained in the area, while the Black Brant put in another appearance with the Brent Geese flock.
On the move over the sea were 1 Shelduck, 16 Wigeon, 2 Eider, 436 Red-throated Diver, 1 Black-throated Diver, 2 Cormorant, 1 Shag, 2 Lesser Black-backed Gull and 8 Auk sp.
Other bits of interest were 1 Marsh Harrier south, Peregrine and Merlin hunting the Humber, 18 Lapwing in/off, 8 Stock Dove u-turning back north and the male Stonechat by the listening dish.

On the move over the sea were 1 Shelduck, 16 Teal, 3 Common Scoter, 1 Velvet Scoter, 1 Goldeneye, 75 Red-throated Diver, 5 Cormorant, 1 Shag, 2 Lesser Black-backed Gull and 1 Auk sp.
Other bits of interest were 1 Short-eared Owl, 2 Fieldfare and 3 Redwing.

The sea was still poor with 2 Common Scoter, 69 Red-throated Diver, 1 Cormorant, 1 Shag, 2 Little Gull, 1 Kittiwake and 11 Auk sp.

Other bits of interest were the 9 Barnacle Geese, 1 Pink-footed Goose and 11 Greylags in the triangle, 426 Wigeon, 1 Gadwall and 27 Teal Kilnsea wetlands, female Scaup and Greenshank Beacon ponds, Coot canal scrape and a 1st winter Mediterranean Gull.

The 9 Barnacle Geese were again in the triangle along with the Pink-footed Goose and 27 Greylags while on Easington straight a Pale-bellied Brent Goose with 300 Brents. Kilnsea Wetlands held 460 Wigeon, 3 Gadwall and 9 Teal. 
Other bits of interest were 58 Shelduck and 76 Black-tailed Godwit on the Humber and a male Stonechat.
The sea was still poor with 2 Common Scoter, 84 Red-throated Diver, 2 Fulmar, 8 Gannet, 1 Cormorant, 15 Kittiwake and 35 Auk sp.

Overnight snow with continued flurries and wintery showers during the day and a F3-2 E wind.
Sea Watches: 0800-1100, 1500-1545.

The young female Pallid Harrier made another welcome appearance today wandering fields around Kilnsea Wetlands before heading back towards Welwick.

The sea was again poor with 11 Red-throated Diver, 4 Gannet, 1 Cormorant, 1 Guillemot and 5 Auk sp on the move.

Other bits of interest were 1 Pink-footed Goose with 22 Greylags in the triangle, an increase to 791 Wigeon on Kilnsea Wetlands along with 3 Gadwall, 11 Teal and 2 Shoveler with a female Scaup on Holderness Field, 2 Common Buzzard blogging about the area, Merlin at Long Bank and 71 Black-tailed Godwit Humber.

Sea Watches: 0750-1005.

A surprise today with a Grey Phalarope which flew onto Kilnsea Wetland from the west, landing briefly then flying towards Beacon Ponds and unfortunately not seen again.
After not being seen for a few days 6 White-fronted Geese had returned to Well field along with 27 Greylag Geese.
The sea was yet again quiet with 2 Shelduck, 4 Teal, 2 Eider, 1 Common Scoter, 18 Red-throated Diver, 9 Gannet, 1 Razorbill and 5 Auk sp on the move.
Other bits of interest were the Black Brant with 700 Brent Geese Kilnsea Wetlands along with 80 Shelduck, 550 Wigeon and 3 Gadwall, 61 Black-tailed Godwit Humber and 10 Linnet Beacon Ponds.

There was no sign of any White-fronted Geese after they flew NW yesterday.

On the move over the sea were 9 Shelduck, 2 Teal, 1 Common Scoter, 3 Goldeneye, 3 Goosander, 2 Red-throated Diver, 3 ‘blue’ Fulmar, 10 Gannet, 3 Cormorant, 2 Kittiwake and 20 Razorbill.

Other bits of interest were the 547 Wigeon, 3 Gadwall, 24 Teal and 2 Shoveler all on Kilnsea wetland, 6 Goldeneye Beacon ponds, 5 Little Egret, 300 Lapwing and 28 Black-tailed Godwit Humber.

A misty morning giving way to a bright, sunny day and a F1-2 S wind.
Sea Watches: 0740-1100, 1400-1500.

With spring seemingly just around the corner it was nice to hear spirit lifting Skylarks singing today.

There were still 7 White-fronted Geese in the triangle with 27 Greylag Geese. 
Another day, another quiet sea. 1 Teal, 2 Mallard, 3 Common Scoter, 39 Red-throated Diver, 3 Cormorant and 1 Razorbill was all it offered today.
Other bits of interest were the Black Brant along with 850 Brents, 1 Pale-bellied Brent and 380 Wigeon on Kilnsea wetland, 1 Gadwall, 5 Teal and 2 Shoveler on Holderness field, 1 Merlin Sammys point, 23 Black-tailed Godwit Humber and 1 Greenshank.

The juvenile Pallid Harrier remained at Welwick.

The sea remains generally quiet, but a few extra bits today with 3 Teal, 2 Common Scoter, 169 Red-throated Diver, 2 Great Northern Diver, 32 Common Gull, 169 Herring Gull, 1w Iceland Gull and 7 Auk sp.
Other bits of interest were 220 Wigeon, 2 Gadwall, 19 Teal and 2 Shoveler all on Holderness field, 40 Black-tailed Godwit Humber and 2 Short-eared Owl.

The juvenile Pallid Harrier remained at Welwick.

Sunny, mild and spring like with a F1-2 SSE wind.
Sea Watches: 0740-1100, 1500-1600.

Fewer observers around today with most heading up to Scarborough for the Bird Observatories Council meeting which was well attended, then the annual Scarborough/Spurn Lads and Lasses night out with around 48 merry souls making for a fun evening and early morning. 

Only 7 White-fronted Geese remained in Well field along with 27 Greylag Geese.
The sea was a bit better with 6 Shelduck, 2 Wigeon, 1 Common Scoter, 3 Velvet Scoter, 78 Red-throated Diver, 18 Gannet, 13 Cormorant, 21 Razorbill and 21 Auk sp on the move.
Other bits of interest were 15 Moorhen and 1 Short-eared Owl.

The juvenile Pallid Harrier remained at Welwick.

Bright and sunny clouding up later with an increasing F1-4 SSE wind.

The 26 White-fronted Geese remained in Well field along with the Pink-footed Goose and 17 Greylag Geese.
Very quiet over the sea with only 1 Mallard, 1 Eider, 37 Red-throated Diver and 8 Auk sp to show for the effort.
Other bits of interest were 414 Wigeon, 6 Goldeneye, 10 Little Grebe, 400 Lapwing Humber and 13 Black-tailed Godwit Humber.

The juvenile Pallid Harrier remained at Welwick.

The 25 White-fronted Geese remained in Well field along with the Pink-footed Goose, 2 Greylag and 12 Brent Geese.
On the move over the sea were 4 Teal, 1 Mallard, 54 Common Scoter, 33 Red-throated Diver, 1 Black-throated Diver, 1 Cormorant, 5 Kittiwake, 120 Auk sp, 4 Guillemot, 27 Razorbill and 2 Puffin.
Other bits of interest were 437 Wigeon, 1 Gadwall, 2 Shoveler, 10 Black-tailed Godwit Holderness field and 1 Greenshank Beacon Ponds.

The juvenile Pallid Harrier continued its residency at Welwick saltmarsh along with Hen Harrier, 2 Marsh Harrier, Peregrine and Merlin.

An increase to 57 White-fronted Geese with 25 still in Well field and 32 along Easington staright.
On the move over the sea were 27 Teal, 2 Eider, 3 Common Scoter, 1 Fulmar, 2 Gannet, 1 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 1w Glaucous Gull and 8 Auk sp.
Other bits of interest were 1 Pink-footed Goose, 330 Shelduck Humber, 9 Teal, 1 Merlin, 1 Water Rail, 48 Black-tailed Godwit were on the Humber, 3 Short-eared Owl Long bank area, 1 Stonechat and 8 Long-tailed Tit Easington.
