Mostly overcast with occasional glimpses of the sun with a cool F4-5 SW wind. Watches: 0815-1015.
The Black Brant with hybrid young remained with the Brent Goose flock in the area, with the resident 15 Whooper Swan on Easington straight. Kilnsea wetlands/ Beacon ponds area held 35 Shoveler, 370 Wigeon, 144 Teal, 4 Gadwall, the 2 Scaup, female Pochard, 7 Goldeneye, a Red-breasted Merganser, 1 Peregrine, a Marsh Harrier, 1 Black-tailed Godwit and a Jack Snipe. Also today were a Barn Owl, 1 Water Rail in Church field, a Chiffchaff in Sykes field and a Common Buzzard in Easington.
The sea had little of interest with only 16 Red-throated Diver, a Fulmar, 4 Gannet and 2 Auk sp.

A rather cold overcast day with a F4 SW wind. Watches: 1330-1415.
Pretty much the same as recent sightings, but good birding anyway with the ringtail Hen Harrier still hunting the area, the 15 Whooper Swan on Easington straight and 2 Scaup on Beacon ponds.
The Kilnsea wetlands area had 104 Greylag Geese, 45 Shoveler, 45 Shelduck, 300 Wigeon, 122 Teal, the female Pochard, 4 Goldeneye, 19 Little Grebe, a Greenshank, 1 Black-tailed Godwit, a Barn Owl and a Little Egret.
Also today a Great Crested Grebe and Eider were on the sea, 2 Stonechat Easington lagoon and 45 Pied Wagtail Easington straight.

An ongoing study of Curlew, by Lucas Mander, through colour ringiing and GPS tagging has been giving some fantastic results betwwen Spurn and Welwick, "in which he showed the results of satellite tagging of Curlews to investigate their adoption of newly restored saltmarsh habitat: they didn’t go far – very site-faithful, like their relatives on other estuaries! Cold and sunny with spots of rain by late evening with a F5 W wind. Watches: 0820-1000.
It was another 'groundhog day' with the Black Brant and hybrid young again present with 600 Dark-bellied Brent, the 15 Whooper Swan on Easington straight and the 2 Scaup along with the female Pochard. 38 Shoveler were present om Kilnsea wetlands, maintaining the unusual high numbers along with 108 Greylag Geese, 350 Wigeon, 2 Goldeneye, a Greenshank and 17 Little Grebe, where 2 Peregrine and a Marsh Harrier were hunting.
The sea only produced 6 Teal, 4 Common Scoter, 6 Red-throated Diver, a Cormorant, 2 Gannet, 26 Auk sp and 13 Guillemot.

Bitterly cold, but sunny with a F4 SW wind. Watches: 0830-1000.
All the good birding was once again in the Kilnsea wetlands area where the Black Brant and hybrid young were again present among 800 Dark-bellied Brent. The 2 Scaup, female Pochard and male Pintail were all still present along with 31 Shoveler, 2 Gadwall, 350 Wigeon, 88 Teal and 3 Goldeneye.
Over the sea 6 Common Scoter, 9 Red-throated Diver, 7 Gannet, 5 Auk sp and 2 Guillemot were typical returns for recent seawatching.

A sunny start clouding over with a blustery F4 wind. Watches: 0800-1015.
There were few observers out and about, the sea recieving most attention with 8 Wigeon, 2 Mallard, 52 Teal, 5 Common Scoter, a Red-breasted Merganser, 60 Red-throated Diver, 9 Gannet, 3 Guillemot and 10 Auk sp.
The Hen Harrier was again hunting the area, 15 Whooper Swan remained on Easington straight along with 27 Mute Swan, the Black Brant with 750 Brent Geese Goose and a Pale-bellied Brent in Kilnsea, a Marsh Harrier in the triangle and a drake Pintail on Long bank.

Dull and cold, rain from late morning heavier by the evening and a F3-4 SW wind. Watches: 0800-1015.
Not a great day to be out birding, but there were a few highlights anyway with 3 Barnacle Geese still in the area along with 900 Brent Geese plus 1 Pale-bellied Brent. A Purple Sandpiper flying south past the seawatch hut was a nice early addition to the yearlist.
The 15 Whooper Swan were still on Easington straight and the 2 Scaup remained faithful to Beacon ponds with 39 Shoveler on Kilnsea wetlands where there were also a female Pochard, a good winter record with also 2 Gadwall, 350 Wigeon and 4 Goldeneye for company.

Dull and cold with a F4 SSW wind. Watches: 0800-1000.
The decent birds were all still present in the area with the ringatil Hen Harrier again around Beacon ponds, the 15 Whooper Swan on Easington straight, over 1000 Dark-bellied Brent Geese and the 2 Scaup on Beacon ponds while 4 Barnacle Geese were seen (three south, one blogging).
On Kilnsea wetlands there was still a fantastic count of 43 Shoveler along with 2 Gadwall, 366 Wigeon and 4 Goldeneye with 13 Little Grebe and a Little Egret on Beacon ponds.
The best the sea could produce today were 2 Common Scoter, 6 Red-throated Diver, 3 Gannet and 3 Guillemot.
Passerine wise 2 Stonechat were in Well field, 10 Redwing in Kilnsea, a Chiffchaff at Southfied farm amd 50 Goldfinch on Vicars lane.

A mild but dull day with a F3 W-S wind. Watches: 0800-1100.
A Jack Snipe was a nice sighting at Beacon ponds having been thin on the ground late autmn and winter, while the usual adult Black Brant was still present with its 4 hybrid young among 900 Brent Geese and 2 Pale-bellied Brent in Well field with 7 Barnacle Geese in Long bank and the 2 Scaup still on Beacon ponds.
The Kilnsea wetlands and long bank area held 37 Shoveler, 2 Gadwall, 390 Wigeon, 70 Teal, 5 Goldeneye, 20 Little Grebe, 80 Lapwing plus 1200 just west of sammies, 3 Snipe and both Short-eared Owl and Barn Owl.
Over the sea were 2 Brent Geese, a Teal, 2 Cormorant, 77 Red-throated Diver, 42 Guillemot and a Razorbill.
Otherwise 10 Stock Dove were in Well field, 250 Starling in the Traingle, 40 House Sparrow at the Obs and 30 Linnet at Kilnsea wetlands.

A chilly murky day with some sun and a F1-2 SW wind. Watches: 0800-0945.
The Black Brant was showing very well in Well field along with it's family and 500 Brent Geese. There were 7 Barnacle Geese today, 3 in Long bank and 4 South with also an unseen flock of Pink-footed Geese passing over the fog. The Kilnsea wetlands area also held 2 Gadwall, 417 Wigeon, 2 Scaup, a Goldeneye, 232 Curlew and 1 Greenshank with the 15 Whooper Swan still on Easington straight.
Passerine wise there were 2 Stonechat, 5 Song Thrush, 5 Redwing, 2 Goldcrest, 2 Chiffchaff and 3 Long-tailed Tit in the area.
Very poor over the sea with only a Common Scoter, 5 Red-breasted Merganser and a Cormorant.

A misty morning remaining chilly all day with a F1-2 SW wind. Watches: 0800-0930.
Similar to the previous few days, but a small increase in Thrush numbers was eveident. The usual Black Brant and family were still present along with 800 Brent Geese and 1 juvenile Pale-bellied Brent in the Kilnsea wetlands area. In the same area were a Barnacle Goose, 1 Canada Goose, 19 Mute Swan, 36 Shoveler, 2 Gadwall, 500 Wigeon, 207 Teal, 2 Scaup, 6 Goldeneye, 16 Little Grebe, a Greenshank, 170 Curlew and and adult Mediterranean Gull with a fantastic 172 Pintail on the Humber and the usual 15 Whooper Swan on Easington straight.
A female Hen Harrier wandered the area from Skeffling to Spurn, 2 Water Rail in the triangle, the Little Owl on Easington straight and 25 Fieldfare and 25 Redwing were recorded.

After a frosty start it was a beautiful sunny calm day. Watches: 0800-1045.
The Black Brant plus hybrid family were yet again in the area among 1050 Brent Geese on Kilnsea wetlands along with a Canada Goose, 142 Greylag Geese, 14 Mute Swan, 2 Gadwall, 2 Scaup and 5 Goldeneye. Nearby the 15 Whooper Swan were on Easington straight and the Little Owl again on the hay bales..
Over the sea 2 Eider, 7 Common Scoter, 33 Red-throated Diver, a Gannet and 5 Guillemot.
Other sightings included a Water Rail in church field, 2000 Knot on the Humber, a Stonechat on canal scrape and a Chiffchaff and Goldcrest by Easington sewage works.

After early morning frost it was a beautiful calm sunny winters day. Watches: 0800-1015, 1340-1510.
It was a great to be out birding on a gloriously sunny, but totally unwinters like day. There wasn't really a great deal seen in the recording area but, the male Black Brant was in fields opposite the Riverside with its hybrid young among a flock of 1231 Brent Geese and 5 Pale-bellied Brent (2 Juvs). The 15 Whooper Swan were still on Easington straight with a Short-eared Owl and 4 Peregrine nearby at Sammies an impressive sight.
Other sightings included 3 Little Egret, a Water Rail in church field, 2 Snipe in the triangle, 19 Stock Dove flew south and a few Skylark up and about singing/dislplaying at sammies
Most of the better sightings were just west of Sammies outside the recording area towards Skeffling with a fine total of 176 Pintail while in close proximity the area held 8 Short-eared Owl, 2 Marsh Harrier, Hen Harrier, 2 Merlin and Barn Owl..

A nice sunny day with a F2 W wind. Watches: 0830-1000.
The day was largely taken up with a work party in Sykes field removing an old mouse infested shed to be replaced soon by a new uninfested one. Some birding was achieved late in the day with the 15 Whooper Swan still on Easington straight with the Little Owl still sat on hay bales nearby. 20 Pink-footed Geese kept the workers in Sykes field amused by having some regular flyovers 'winking' all the while as did a one of two Chiffchaff in the immediate area. Hopefully tomorrow some extra eyes will pick up something.
Just outside the area a couple of flocks of grey Geese were in the Sammies to Skeffling area, one of these just west of Skefflling holding a nice group of 13 Tundra Bean Geese with the immediate area having a Hen Harrier, Marsh Harrier, Merlin, 5 Short-eared Owl, Barn Owl, 2 Common Buzzard and plenty of Finches in some rough set aside by the pumping station. Worth a check if your in the area.

A calmer day at last, but becoming wet and windy as the day wore on. Watches: 0815-1050.
It was much the same again with the 15 Whooper Swans again still present on Easington straight and the Kilnsea wetlands area having 450 Bremt Geese with 1 Pale-bellied Brent, 150 Greylag Geese, a Canada Goose, 20 Shoveler, 3 Gadwall, 431 Wigeon, 186 Teal, 2 Scaup, 4 Goldeneye, 186 Curlew, 370 Redshank, a little Egret, 1 Merlin and a Marsh Harrier.
Other sightings included 18 Pink-footed Geese in North field, a Mediterranean Gull, 1 Chiffchaff and a Mistle Thrush in Easington, 1 Barn Owl at the Obs and 7 Skylark singing in the morning. Over the sea 14 Pink-footed Geese, 3 Teal, a Common Scoter, 1 Red-breasted Merganser, 12 Red-throated Diver, 4 Gannet and 12 Auk sp.

Rain from mid afternoon with wild and windy F5-6 SW wind. Watches: 0800-1000.
The good period of birding comtinues with another 5 Tundra Bean Goose south along with a White-fronted Goose which paused briefly at Kilnsea wetlands while 176 Pink-footed Geese flew north. Yet again the Kilnsea wetlands/long bank area held most of the decent birding with 112 Greylag Geese, 27 Shoveler, 3 Gadwall, 415 Wigeon, 180 Teal, 2 Scaup, 2 Goldeneye, 175 Curlew, 280 Redshank and a 2cy Mediterranean Gull with the 15 Whooper Swan still on Easington straight.
Over the sea bat the Goose movement were 2 Mallard, a Common Scoter, 14 Red-throated Diver, 3 Gannet, a Cormorant, 3 Auk sp, 3 Guillemot and 6 Razorbill.

An unpleasant wet and windy day with a F4-5 SSW wind. Watches: 0755-1015.
The Black Brant with hybrid family were again on Long bank with 400 Brent Geese plus 9 Pink-footed Geese and the 15 Whooper Swan on Easington straight. In the Kilnsea wetlands/ Beacon ponds area were the 2 Scaup, 27 Shoveler, 3 Gadwall, 400 Wigeon, 150 Teal, 3 Goldeneye, a Red-breasted Merganser, 1 Marsh Harrier, a Greenshank and a 3cy Mediterranen Gull.
Over the sea 2 Wigeon, 5 Pintail, 28 Red-throated Diver, a Great Northern Diver, 1 Fulmar, a Great Crested Grebe, 2 Gannet, 6 Guillemot, 2 Razorbill and 2 Auk sp.
Also today were 2 Stonechat, a Chiffchaff, 2 Goldcrest, 35 Fieldfare, 50 Blackbird and 58 Chaffinch all in the Easington area.

A wild windy day, with occasional sunny periods in the afternoon and a F3-6 SSE wind. Watches: 0800-1030.
A Tundra Bean Goose was in the triangle briefly then flew NW up the Humber with Greylags and the 15 Whooper Swan were still opn Easington straight.
Kilnsea wetlands and the surrounding area held most of the other action with 37 Shoveler, 2 Gadwall, 450 Wigeon, 50 Mallard, 150 Teal, 2 Scaup, 3 Goldeneye, 400 Lapwing, 290 Curlew and 285 Redshank with the Little Owl still on hay bales along Easington straight..

A dull grey day with a F3-6 S wind. Watches: 0800-1030.
It was yet another good wildfowl day with 7 White-fronted Geese still in the triangle with a Pale-bellied Brent while a good count of 1380 Pink-footed Geese flew NW. The 15 Whooper Swan remained on Easington straight while Kilnsea wetlands had another good count of 43 Shoveler along with 2 Gadwall, 350 Wigeon, 163 Teal, the 2 Scaup and 3 Goldeneye. Over the sea a Great Northern Diver flew north plus 7 Red-throated Diver, 2 Pintail and 8 Eider.
Some decent Wader counts on the Humber saw 1350 Oystercatcher, 250 Lapwing, 90 Grey Plover, 90 Curlew, 1020 Knot and 150 Redshank recorded.

Bright and sunny with a F1 W wind.
There were 7 White-fronted Geese in the Triangle with a Pink-footed Goose and a Pale-bellied Brent. The Long bank area held 500 Brent Geese, 141 Greylag Geese, 78 Curlew and 650 Lapwing with 454 Wigeon, 32 Shoveler, 2 Gadwall, 120 Teal, 2 Scaup and 3 Goldeneye on Kilnsea wetlands. The 15 Whooper Swan are still on Easington straight with a Marsh Harrier wandering the area.

Sunny spells with a strong F5-6 SW wind. Seawatch: 0830-0850.
A male Hen Harrier was in the triangle where 7 White-fronted Geese were present. The Black Brant plus hybrid young were on Long bank with 700 Brent Geese and 1 Pale-bellied Brent and the 2 Scaup nearby on Kilnsea wetlands along with 15 Shoveler and 4 Goldeneye plus 15 Whooper Swan again on Easington straight.
Otherwise 1020 Oystercatcher were counted on the Humber and 14 Stock Dove were in Clubleys.

Bright and sunny with a F2 W wind. Seawatch: 0905-1020.
The Black Brant was again in the Long bank area with 600 Brent Geese with 90 Pink-footed Geese, 140 Greylag Geese and a Canada Goose in the same general area. Neaby 9 Barnacle Geese and 14 Whooper Swan were on Easington straight while on Kilnsea wetlands 30 Shoveler, 576 Wigeon, 190 Teal, 2 Scaup, 4 Goldeneye, 14 Little Grebe, 3 Little Egret and 440 Lapwing.
Other sightings worthy of note were a Kingfisher at Sammies, a Water Rail in Church field plus 1 Goldcrest, 42 Blackbird, 2 Song Thrush and 44 Chaffinch.

Sunny spells but feeling cooler with a F1 W wind. Watches; 0750-1030.
The 7 Tundra Bean Geese were again on Easington straight but were flushed one too many times by the local farmers and flew off south as did at least 90 White-fronted Geese (probably nearer 120). 7 White-fronted Geese were also in the triangle. The Black Brant was still on Long bank with 450 Brent Geese and 1 Pale-bellied Brent with the 14 Whooper Swans along with 9 Barnacle Geese on Easington straight. The 2 Scaup (1 drake) were still on Kilnsea wetlands along with 648 Wigeon, 312 Teal, 31 Shoveler, 55 Mallard, 6 Gadwall, 4 Goldeneye, 26 Little Grebe, 400 Redshank and a Greenshank.
Over the sea 2 Teal, 4 Common Scoter, a Great Crested Grebe, 27 Red-throated Diver and a Cormorant.

A wild windy day, rain on and off with a F5-6 W wind. Watches: 0800-1000, 1050-1200.
A fantastic count of 72 White-fronted Geese were on easington straight along with the 15 Whooper Swan, while in the Long bank area the Black Brant with hybrid young was present along with 636 Brent Geese, 16 Barnacle Geese and a Pale-bellied Brent. The Kilnsea wetlands area held the 2 Scaup, 10 Shoveler, 350 Wigeon, 6 Gadwall, 204 Lapwing and a Greenshank.
Over a quiet sea were a Teal, 1 Common Scoter, 17 Red-throated Diver, 2 Cormorant, 6 Guillemot and 2 Razorbill.

A cloudy windy day with a F4-5 W wind. Watches: 0800-1010.
There were still 7 Tundra Bean Geese and 15 Whooper Swan on Easington straight with 63 White-fronted Geese (19 then went south) and 15 Barnacle Geese wandering the area and the 2 Scaup on Kilnsea wetlands.
Also moving were 19 Pink-footed Geese, 4 Common Scoter, 20 Red-throated Diver, a Gannet, 2 Guillemot, 3 Razorbill and 6 Auk sp.

Three teams were out and about today raising money for the Michael Clegg memorial bird race. Money this year going to Ryedale Wildlife rehabilitation centre, where Jean Thorpe has been saving raptors which have been illegally persecuted. On saturday a coffee morning in Easington raised £230.00 towards the same worthy cause.

Highlights from the day included much of what has been in the area recently with 7 Tundra Bean Geese, 15 Barnacle Geese and the 15 Whooper Swan on Easington straight, 46 White-fronted Geese and 78 Pink-footed Geese were just west of Sammies. The 2 Scaup (1 drake) were on Kilnsea wetlands along with a Red-breasted Merganser on Beacon ponds with 51 Pintail on the Humber off Sammies. There were also Water Rail in Churchfield and 2 Chiffchaff in the area.
Out of the area 2 Water Pipit and 3 Short-eared Owl were at Welwick.

Yet again fantastic numbers of Geese remain in the area. There were 12 Tundra Bean Geese (7 and 5) while an impressive flock of 82 White-fronted Geese were in fields just west of Sammies. The Black Brant plus hybrid young were in long bank with 600 Brent Geese, a Pale-bellied Brent, 15 Barnacle Geese. 260 Greylag Geese and a Canada Goose. The 2 Scaup were still on Kilnsea wetlands along with 718 Wigeon, 260 Teal, 42 Shoveler, 3 Gadwall and 3 Goldeneye and 15 Whooper Swan again on Easington straight.
Also today Red Kite and Marsh Harrier toured the area, a Little Owl on Easington straight, 1 Barn Owl in the triangle, a Blackcap at Kew and over the sea a Great Northern Diver flew north with a Goosander south.
Just outside the area a Hen Harrier was at Welwick.

A cloudy drizzly start brightened later with a F3-1 WNW wind.
There were still good numbers of Wildfowl generally including 14 Whooper Swan on Easington straight, 14 Barnacle Geese, 225 Greylag Geese and a Canada Goose in Long bank while the Kilnsea wetlands area held the 2 Scaup, 35 Shoveler, 9 Gadwall, 615 Wigeon, 350 Teal, 4 Goldeneye, 21 Little Grebe, 3 Little Egret, a Marsh Harrier, 100 Lapwing and a Greenshank.
The sea was poor with only a Great Crested Grebe, 1 Gannet and 9 Red-throated Diver with 3 Avocet over the Humber a good winter record for Spurn.
Also today a Chiffchaff in Sykes field, 8 Redwing in the triangle and 25 Stock Dove at Long bank.

The Goose influx continues today bringing 21 Tundra Bean Geese (16 south, 5 Easington straight) and 31 White-fronted Geese (29 Long bank, 2 south) to the area.
The 14 Whooper Swan are again on Easington straight and the 2 Scaup on Kilnsea wetlands where a brilliant count of 51 Shoveler was made.
West of Sammies the Black Brant with hybrid youmg was again near Skeffling.

A nice sunny day but with a cold F2-3 SW wind.
There were plenty of observers out and about with sore heads and it turned out to be a good day with some good birds sighted, a Goose influx maybe instigated by New Years fireworks and celebrations on the near Continent?
The day was dominated by an arrival of Geese into the wider area with 2+ Tundra Bean Geese just west of Sammies carpark, 19 White-fronted Geese (4 south, 10 in/off, then in fields at Skeffling and 5 more nearby with around 50 Pink-footed Geese). The Black Brant with hybrid family was between Sammies and Skeffling with around 500 Brent Geese which also had a Barnacle Goose and a Pale-bellied Brent.
On Easington straight the 14 Whooper Swan were still present with the 2 Scaup again on Kilnsea wetlands plus 6 Gadwall, 63 Mallard, 312 Teal, 416 Wigeon and 19 Shoveler, with 60 Pintail at sammies, while sightings over the sea included a Slavonian Grebe, 2 Barnacle Geese,7 Shelduck, 9 Shoveler, 22 Gadwall, 5 Wigeon, 73 Teal, 4 Pintail, 1 Pochard, 3 Goldeneye, 9 Common Scoter, 3 Velvet Scoter 65 Red-throated Diver, a Bonxie, 20 Guillemot and a Razorbill.
Just outside the area a ringtail Hen Harrier was hunting the saltmarsh at Skeffling where 6 Twite were present.
