The day dawned to a covering of snow and frequent flurries during the day with a very cold F3 ESE wind.
Migration Watches: 

Little done again due to the conditions, other than Kilnsea wetlands and locally around the village.

While not a full count, at least an attempt was made with 7 Goldeneye, 2 Tufted Duck, 5 Shoveler and 70 Teal while in the Kilnsea area 10 Snipe, 2 Woodcock, 31 Black-tailed Duck, male Marsh Harrier, 160 Wood Pigeon, 5 Fieldfare, 2 Redwing, the 2 resident Long-tailed Tit and 8 Goldfinch.

Ringing: 1 Dunnock, 1 Fieldfare, 1 Redwing, 1 Blackbird, 3 Starling, 4 Goldfinch.

The odd sunny spells among the frequent snow showers with a very cold F3-4 ENE wind.
Migration Watches: 0830-1000.

The few sightings that were actually reported were 5 Shoveler, 2 Tufted Duck, 5 Goldeneye, a Marsh Harrier at Long bank, 2 Snipe, 1 Redwing and a juvenile Kittiwake which hit wires at Kilnsea wetlands, was rescued and taken into care.

Poor visibility over the sea with only 9 Red-throated Diver seen.

A bright and sunny day with a cold F3 ESE wind.
Migration Watches: 0745-1000. 
The cold weather arriving from the continent is beginning to have an effect with 255 Blackbird in the area, 200 at the point alone where 30 Fieldfare and 3 Stonechat were also present.

Another day and the trio of Green-winged Teal at Kilnsea wetlands, Rose-coloured Starling in Easington and the male Ring Ouzel at Sammy's all remained in place today.

In the Kilnsea wetlands and Beacon ponds area 1 Whooper Swan, 8 Mute Swan, 9 Shoveler and the usual Ducks along with 1 Grey Partridge, 1 Greenshank and 60 Lapwing.

The sea was quiet again with only 2 Great Crested Grebe, Yellow-legged Gull, 176 Herring Gull and 1 Kittiwake seen.

Ringing: 1 Greenfinch, 8 Goldfinch.

A bright and sunny day with a F3 SE wind.
Migration Watches: 0740-1000.
The long bank area opposite Kilnsea wetlands to many locals has been a frustrating bit of habitat for a number of years, but a change in thinking and some great management, the YWT have created a brilliant flooded meadow along with the subsequent spectacle, attracting large amounts of Wildfowl and Waders. Hopefully this will last into the early spring and maybe attract some species of Wader to breed.

Some of the totals in the area here today were 570 Brent Geese with 1 Pale-bellied Brent, 600 Wigeon, 8 Shoveler, the Green-winged Teal, 2 Tufted Duck and 179 Black-tailed Godwit among the Lapwing, Curlew, Redshank and Dunlin.
The often elusive Rose-coloured Starling remained in Easington and the male Ring Ouzel still found Sammy’s point to its liking.

Other totals and sightings were 3 Little Egret, 1 Common Buzzard, 3 Snipe, 1 Stock Dove, 3 Stonechat, 3 Fieldfare, 2 Redwing, 3 SongThrush, 25 Blackbird in one Easington garden, 2 Long-tailed Tit in Kilnsea plus 2 In Easington and a flock of 60 Linnet on Clubleys.
The sea was very quiet but, 11 Pintail flew north, while 31 red-throated Diver and 1 Auk sp was a poor return.

Cold, but bright and sunnny most of the day with a F2-3 SE wind.
Watches: 0740-1100.

The drake Green-winged Teal was again on Kilnsea wetlands and the male Hen Harrier around the long bank area.

The sea produced most of the sightings today with 90 Pink-footed Geese heading north, 12 Common Scoter, 141 Red-throated Diver, 23 Gannet, 1 Shag, 2 Kittiwake, 85 Auk sp, 89 Guiilemot and 3 Razorbill.

Otherwise 2 Kestrel, 1 Redwing , 1 Song Thrush and 45 Fieldfare made up the rest of the sightings.

Offshore 4 Porpoise and 3 Grey Seal were seen.

A chilly but mild sunny day.

The nice conditions had many species singing and displaying locally, checking out nest boxes and chasing off rivals despite the threat of a cold snap in the next few days.

A new record of 309 Cormorant was set today when they left the roost on the World War 2 fort in the Humber and headed out to sea. The record had only recently been broken on the 10th February which was 278.

Having been quiet for Wildfowl since the weekend, the last couple have seen the Wigeon flock slowly return to the area numbering 505 today along with 1 Whooper Swan, 138 Teal, the male Green-winged Teal, 7 Shoveler, 2 Tufted Duck and 4 Goldeneye along with 13 Little Grebe, 66 Lapwing, Greenshank and 3 Avocet. The male Hen Harrier was nearby at Skeffling hunting the saltmarsh and the usual Merlin in the Warren area hunting a flock of 28 Linnet. The 'resident' male Ring Ouzel was still gracing Sammys Point.

Generally a mild day with a light F1-2 N wind.

The Rose-coloured Starling is still by Dimlington bungalows and the male Ring Ouzel at Sammys.

A nice ghostly male Hen Harrier did a tour of the area, while over the sea 2 Great Northern Diver had a flypast and overland a few small groups of Meadow Pipit headed north.

Ringing: 9 Dunlin, 1 Redshank, 1 Robin, 1 Long-tailed Tit, 1 Tree Sparrow.

Overcast with occasional rain all day F2-4 W wind.
Watches: 0750-1115.

Still no return yet of any decent Wildfowl numbers. Sightings today included 6 Shoveler, 2 Coot on Canal scrape, 126 Curlew and 83 Black-tailed Godwit while a white-winged Gull sp was seen offshore and a Skylark came in off.

A few bits on the move over the sea with 5 Wigeon, 2 Common Scoter, 55 Red-throated Diver, 10 Gannet, 3 Fulmar, 2 Razorbill and 41 Guillemot.

Thick fog all day with rain and a light W wind.
Migration Watches: 0740-1015.

Seemingly a clear out of Ducks in the area, but may also be due to the disturbance over the last 2 days with only 27 Wigeon and 35 Teal seen. Other sightings in the poor weather were 12 Snipe at Beacon ponds, 60 Black-tailed Godwit, 3 Avocet on Beacon ponds, the Tawny Owl at Kew, 1 Stonechat and 1 Merlin while Pink-footed Geese were heard in the fog.

Terrible for movement over the sea, with only 25 Red-throated Diver and a Great Crested Grebe seen.

2 Porpoise were seen offshore.

A mild day with sunny spells with a F1-2 SW wind.
Watches: 0740-1030.
Another brilliant turn out saw loads of tasks completed by an enthusiastic bunch of volunteers. The garden at Kew had a great makeover and the Sand Martin wall was completed among a whole host of other important jobs.


A bit of action over the sea with 35 Pink footed Geese, 2 Whooper Swan, 2 Common Scoter, 77 Red throated Diver, 1 Gannet and 2 Auk sp while overland the beginnings of some movement saw 6 Skylark and 1 Meadow Pipit head south.

Other bits of note were a White-fronted Goose with 18 Greylag Geese, 550 Brent Geese Humber, 1 Whooper Swan at Long bank, 6 Shoveler, 2 Pochard, 2 Tufted Duck at Kilnsea Wetlands, Common Buzzard on Easington straight, the first 2 Avocet of the spring sat on the Tern raft on Beacon ponds, 2 Long tailed Tit, 1 Redwing, 2 Song Thrush and 13 Greenfinch all in the Obs area with 20 Yellowhammer on Peter lane plus 2 in Church field.

The 'springs' first Frogs and Newts were in the ponds at Kew and in Church field.

Broken cloud, chilly with a F1-2 SE wind
Sea-watch- 0810 - 1000.

A busy day with a whole range of tasks underway. The beginnings of the Sand Martin wall at Kilnsea wetlands was taking shape, while the fruit trees at Kew got a much needed prune among a wide range of jobs. Thanks to everyone who turned up to give a hand.

The Green-winged Teal was still on kilnsea wetlands, the Rose-coloured Starling in Easington and the male Ring Ouzel was still at Sammy's.

On the move were 200 Pink-footed Geese, 1 Common Scoter, 50 Red-throated Diver, 1 Gannet, 1 Cormorant, 2 Guillemot, 1 Razorbill and 10 auk sp.

Present were 28 Ringed Plover, the Tawny Owl at Kew, 15 Fieldfare, 8 Redwing, 1 Mistle Thrush at the point, 7 Stonechat and 2 Coal Tits in Easington.

Ringing: 1 Black-tailed Godwit, 1 Curlew, 1 Knot

Sunny all day, F3 SW wind

The Rose-coloured Starling was still around Dimlington Bungalows and the male Ring Ouzel was still at Sammy's.

On the move were 70 Pink-footed Geese, 1 Wigeon, 5 Common Scoter, 51 Red-throated Diver, 1 Cormorant, 6 Common Gull, 1 Great Black-backed Gull, 25 Herring Gull, 6 Guillemot, 8 auk sp.

Present were 1 Whooper Swan along Easington Straight, 4 Shoveler, 1 Pochard, 5 Tufted Duck, 5 Goldeneye, 30 Red-throated Diver, 8 Little Grebe, 1 adult male Hen Harrier, 1 Common Buzzard 1, 4 Ringed Plover, 9 Black-tailed Godwit, 1 Greenshank, 1 Peregrine, 8 Fieldfare, 1 Mistle Thrush at Cliff Farm, 40 Linnet, 7 Snow Bunting at Beacon Ponds.

Scattered showers with a difficult breezy F4-5 W-NW wind.
Migration Watches: 0740-1015.
Little done today with the poor conditions.

Despite the conditions it was quiet over the sea with only 3 Common Scoter, 109 Red-throated Diver, 15 Herring Gull, 10 Auk sp, 3 Razorbill and 2 Guillemot.

The only other bits of note were 551 Brent Geese with 1 Pale-bellied Brent, 45 Shelduck, 67 Grey Plover and a Skylark arriving in/off.

After a heavy overnight frost it remained a sunny day with a F2 NW wind.
Migration Watches: 0900-1030.

Wildfowl on Kilnsea wetlands and Long bank continue to be the main spectacle for such a small area. 800 Wigeon is a fantastic count and easily the best count for this new area, while other totals were 750 Brent Geese, 100 Teal , 12 Mallard, 3 Shoveler, 1 Pochard, 4 Goldeneye while also here 200 Black-tailed Godwit, 70 Curlew, 1 greenshank, 56 Lapwing and 90 Dunlin.

Other bits of note were 1 Little Egret, 1 Grey Heron, 1 Common Buzzard, 2000 Knot, the usual Tawny Owl, 10 Magpie in the triangle, 4 Fieldfare and, 3 Stonechat and 5 Snow Bunting at the breach.
The sea was very quiet only producing 27 Red-throated Diver, 3 Cormorant and 8 Auk sp.

Mainly sunny with a cool F3-5 WNW wind.

Migration Watches: 0745-1015.
Few observations today with the ongoing work weekend. Money raised from the Michael clegg memorial bird race went to the building of a much needed Sand Martin wall for Kilnsea wetlands and work was well underway today. A massive thanks to eveyone who donated money and hopefully in the next couple of years the wall will be flourishing with a new colony. Sand Martin have not bred in any numbers for many years, having formerly bred in decent numbers on the 'cliffs', but heavy erosion has seemingly had abig effect.

Early morning seawatching was quite productive with 2 Common Scoter, a Black-throated Diver, 66 Red-throated Diver, 1 Great Northern Diver, 2 Gannet, 1 Cormorant, 2 Kittiwake, 18 Auk sp, 1 Razorbill and 2 Guillemot.

Otherwise the drake Green-winged Teal was still on Kilnsea wetlands and the Tawny Owl still resident in the Obs area.

A cold showery day with a F2-3 W wind.

watches: 0745-1000, 1100-1200.

11 volunteers were busy with many of the jobs that needed attending too, mainly in at the Obs and in Church field, while work began on the Sand martin wall. 

A fantastic movement of 278 Cormorant was a record Spurn count. The previous best total was 177. Also over the sea 1 Fulmar, 1 Gannet, 32 Red-throated Diver, 1 Bonxie, 67 Auk sp, 5 Gullemot and 3 Razorbill.
Also of note 19 Fieldfare were on Clubleys.

The Rose-coloured Starling was again at Dimlington bungalows.

Sunny spells with showers with a cold F2-3 SW wind.
Watches: 0815-1045.
No sign of the Green-winged Teal today, but in the Long bank/Kilnsesa wetlands area 666 Wigeon is a fantastic increase along with 750 Brent Geese (but only 1 juvenile), 128 Teal, 3 Shoveler, 1 Pochard, 1 Tufted Duck, 8 Goldeneye, 2 Little Egret, a male Marsh Harrier and 430 Redshank gave for an amazing spectacle

Also in the area 2 Woodcock and the Tawny owl were at the obs, the male Ring Ouzel at sammys, 12 Fieldfare, 1 Stonechat at Beacon ponds, 34 Skylark mainly on Easington straight and a flock of 35 Linnet.

Sunny spells with a cold, light F4-5 WSW wind.
Watches: 0745-1100.

An increase in some wildfowl was evident for some species with 750 Brent Geese, 520 Wigeon, 102 Teal, 1 Tufted Duck, 1 Pochard, 6 Goldeneye all in the Kilnsea wetlands area, a Woodcock was picked up dead in Kilnsea, 175 Black-tailed Godwit, 110 Curlew, 2 Merlin wandering the area, a Kingfisher at Sammys where the male Ring Ouzel remained, the Rose-coloured Starling still in Easington, 15 Fieldfare mobile and 37 Linnet on Clubleys.

A few bits on the move over the sea with 2 Common Scoter, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 214 Red-throated Diver, 1 Cormorant, 7 Kittiwake, 1 Bonxie, 15 Auk sp, 1 Razorbill and 16 Guillemot.

Mostly cloudy with the odd sunny spell a cold F2 W wind.
Migration Watches: 0745-1045.

The Green-winged Teal, Rose-coloured Starling and Ring Ouzel were all present in their respective locations.

Pretty much the same as we have been getting the last few days, and the same species with the sea steady again with 2 Wigeon, 2 Eider, 6 Common Scoter, 62 Red-throated Diver, 2 Cormorant, 3 Kittiwake, 12 Auk sp and 1 Guillemot. 
Other sightings were 435 Wigeon, 87 Teal, 4 Shoveler, 1 Tufted Duck, 1 Pochard, 4 Goldeneye on Kilnsea wetlands, 1 Greenshank, 1 Stonechat, 22 Fieldfare, 10 Redwing, 60 Blackbird, 8 Long-tailed Tit, 30 Linnet and 6 Snow Bunting at the breach.

Light wintry showers all day with a cold, light F1 SW wind.
Watches: 0800-1030.

Some great counts from the area today especially at high tide though no counts for Knot or Dunlin which are generally the commonest waders on the Humber. Totals and interesting sightings were 1 Whooper Swan, 438 Wigeon, 120 Teal, the drake Green-winged Teal, 33 Mallard, 4 Shoveler, 1 Tufted Duck, 8 Goldeneye, 11 Little Grebe, 3 Little Egret, 122 Golden Plover, 70 Lapwing, 135 Black-tailed Godwit, 2 Snipe, 105 Curlew, 185 Redshank, 1 Greenshank while passerine wise 1 Stonechat was at Kilnsea wetlands, 20 Fieldfare mobile, 7 Long-tailed tit in Kilnsea and 30 Linnet in the triangle.

A few bits over the sea with 2 Teal, 119 Common Scoter, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 145 Red-throated Diver, 1 Fulmar, 1 Gannet, 2 Cormorant, 6 Auk sp, 1 Razorbill and 1 Guillemot.

Ringing: 3 Long-tailed Tit.

Little else seen but a Woodcock was in Easington along with 7 Long-tailed tit.

Sunny spells and showers with a cold F2-3 NW wind.
Watches: 0750-1020.

Few observers around today and most had headed up to Scarborough for the annual get together with Spurn and Scarborough’s Bird Obs finest birders out for a bit of friendly banter, joined by Filey and Buckton birders in what is always a memorable night out.

The Rose-coloured Starling was present as usual in Easington, as was the Ring Ouzel at Sammys.

A few bits over the sea with 29 Pink-footed Geese north, 1 Goldeneye, 81 Common Scoter, 40 Red-throated Diver, 1 Auk sp and 2 Guillemot.
Other bits mainly in the Kilnsea wetlands area were adult Whooper Swan on Easington straight, 320 Wigeon, 91 Teal, 4 Shoveler, 5 Goldeneye while the Tawny Owl was still eeking out a living in the village with 12 Long-tailed Tit in Kilnsea and 2 Snow Bunting at Beacon ponds.

Heavy showers with sunny spells and a F3 NW wind.
Watches: 0800-1015.

The great start to the year continues with good birds being seen daily and great counts of wildfowl to keep visiting birders and locals happy. The Green-winged Teal continues to socialise with around 100 Teal and 340 Wigeon, while upto 650 Brent Geese with 2 Pale-bellied Geese are often in the Kilnsea wetlands area. Nearby the male Ring Ouzel remains, often elusive at Sammy’s. A new bird for the yearlist came in the form of a Black Redstart in Kilnsea wetlands carpark and while not reported today the Rose-coloured starling has been seen in the last few days when looked for.

A trickle of birds over the sea, 38 Red-throated Diver, 7 Common Scoter, 1 Gannet, 1 Arctic Skua, 2 Kittiwake, 3 Auk sp and 5 Guillemot.

Other bits mainly in the Kilnsea wetlands area were adult Whooper Swan on Easington straight, 4 Shoveler, 1 Tufted Duck, 7 Goldeneye, a Peregrine in the area, Greenshank still on Beacon ponds while 19 Fieldfare at sammys and the obs, 13 Skylark in the long bank area and 50 Linnet at Kilnsea wetlands.

Sunny spells and showers with a F3-5 WNW wind.
Migration Watches: 0745-1015, 1230-1530.

Very poor over the sea despite the conditions and the time put in with 49 Red-throated Diver, 14 Gannet, 1 Fulmar, 4 Kittiwake, 31 Auk sp and 27 Guillemot. 
Other sightings were 650 Brent Geese plus 2 Pale-bellied Brent, 444 Wigeon, the male Green-winged Teal, 110 Teal, 7 Shoveler, 1 Tufted Duck, 6 Goldeneye on Kilnsea wetlands, 2 Little Egret, 1 Grey Heron, 208 Black-tailed Godwit, the Greenshank on Beacon ponds, the male Ring Ouzel at Sammys and 2 Snow Bunting.

Ringing: Nil.
