A WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER was a fantastic find at Kilnsea wetland, maybe even slightly expected with regular records over the last few years. It was joined by 6 Egyptian Geese, which then flew off south east out to sea, with the 3 Spoonbill still remaining, a nice count of 38 Little Egret and 2 juvenile Caspian Gull.

A cloudy day, rain in the morning and a F3 south easterly.  Watches: 0540-0945.

While still little change the good birding continues on Kilnsea wetlands, today offering 2 Pintail, 3 Spoonbill, a Great White Egret, 18 Little Egret, 3 Little-ringed Plover, a Black-tailed Godwit, 3 Common Sandpiper, 3 Green Sandpiper, a Wood Sandpiper, a Greenshank, 8 Little Gull, 3 Mediterranean Gull, a 2cy Caspain Gull (with yellow darvic, XPEU) first seen as a juvenile in 2020, 90 Sandwich Tern and a Short-eared Owl, while 97 Little Tern were on Beacon ponds.

There was again some movement over the sea with 4 Teal, 24 Common Scoter, 4 Manx Shearwater, a Great Crested Grebe, 1 Spoonbill, 83 Gannet, 16 Shelduck, 38 Whimbrel, 2 Curlew, 87 Turnstone, 7 Knot, 2 Sanderling, a Dunlin, 12 Redshank, 5 Kittiwake, 6 Little Gull, 24 Sandwich Tern, 6 Common Tern and 5 Arctic Skua.

Ringing: 2 Willow Warbler, 1 Lesser Whitethroat.

A wild, windy, cloudy day with a blustery F5-7 south westerly.  Watches: 0900-1200.

The Kilnsea wetlands and Beacon ponds area produced some good totals and variety with 2 Pintail, 24 Little Egret, a Great White Egret, 3 Spoonbill, 3 Little-ringed Plover, 2 Ruff, 210 Redshank, 300 Knot, 4 Greenshank, a Wood Sandpiper, 3 GreenSandpiper, a Common Sandpiper, 2500 Dunlin, 6 Mediterranean Gull, an adult Yellow-legged Gull, 2 juvenile Caspain Gull, 206 Sandwich Tern, a Roseate Tern, 10 Common Tern and 3 Arctic Tern.

There was some movement over land and sea the best being a Wigeon, 5 Shelduck, 24 Oystercatcher, 4 Lapwing, a Snipe, 1 Curlew, 3 Whimbrel, 23 Redshank and 19 Turnstone while overland 876 Swift, 6 Sand Marrtin, 4 Swallow and 5 House Martin.

Rain early morning brightening later with a F3-5 south westerly. 

There were still 2 Spoonbill and a Great White Egret in the Kilnsea wetlands/ Beacon ponds area, which also held most of the decent birding too, with 5 Shoveler, 51 Mallard, 5 Pintail, 5 Little-ringed Plover, 6 Black-tailed Godwit,a Snipe, 5050 Dunlin, 206 Redshank, 3 Common Sandpiper, 5 Greenshank, a Ruff, 22 Little Egret, 10 Mediterranean Gull, 5 Little Gull, a juvenile Caspian Gull and 120 Sandwich Tern.

The day also saw a small movement with 5 Teal, 10 Common Scoter (plus 90 on the Humber), a Red-throated Diver, 2 Manx Shearwater, 47 Gannet, 56 Oystercatcher, 2 Whimbrel, 2 Dunlin, 5 Turnstone, 46 Kittiwake, a Roseate Tern, an Arctic Skua and 2 Puffin, with also 267 Swift, 9 Sand Martin and 26 Swallow overland.

Ringing: 2 Whitethroat, 2 Willow Warbler, 1 Dunnock.

Cloudy with sunny spells and a F1-4 north west-south east wind.  Watches: 0630-0930.

There was little change overall, the usual Great White Egret wandered the area and 42 Little Egret and a Spoonbill were around Kilnsea wetlands along with the Goldeneye, 3 Greenshank, 3 Green Sandpiper, 63 Little Gull and 7 Mediterranean Gull.

Moving were 7 Teal, a Pintail, 64 Common Scoter, 14 Manx Shearwater, 67 Gannet, 7 Cormorant, a Golden Plover in, 2 Sanderling, a Whimbrel, 5 Redshank, 2 Turnstone, 5 Little Gull, 96 Kittiwake, 4 Puffin, a Great Skua and 2 Arctic Skua.

Ringing: 2 Song Thrush,3 Blackbird, 2 Dummock, 1 Starling, 1 Blue Tit,1 Great Tit, 1 Reed Warbler, 2 Whitethroat, 1 Chiffchaff, 3 Blackcap, 1 Greenfinch.

A cloudy, but warm day with the odd brighter spell and a F3 northerly.  Watches: 0550-1000.

There were 2 Great White Egret on Beacon ponds and assumed to be obe of the birds in the triangle later and roosting again at Pancho pond and 2 Spoonbill were again on Kilnsea wetlands.

Moving were 7 Teal, a Tufted Duck, 142 Common Scoter, 3 Fulmar, 13 Manx Shearwater, 137 Gannet, 119 Oystercatcher, 13 Whimbrel, 2 Curlew, 3 Turnstone, 5 Sanderling, a Common Sandpiper, a Green Sandpiper, 824 Kittiwake, 6 Blacl-headed Gull in/off, 6 Little Gull, 15 Common Tern, 5 Arctic Tern, a Black Tern, 1 Great Skua, 3 Arctic Skua, 22 Guillemot, 14 Razorbill, 7 Puffin and 58 Large Auk sp, while pverland a Marsh Harrier, 1 Hobby and 3 Swift.

Other bits of note were 2 Green Sandpiper mobile in the triangle, 22 Mediterranean Gull and an adult Yellow-legged Gull on the Humber,.

A cooler, dull day with a F3 easterly.

Not all notes were recieved but still a few bits of interest during the day with the Great White Egret at Canal scrape and roosting again at Pancho pond, the 2 Spoonbill at Kilnsea wetlands along with the Goldeneye, 3 Wigeon, 3 Teal, 18 Little Egret, a Black-tailed Godwit, 210 Redshank, 2 Greenshank, 1400 Black-headed Gull, 40 Little Gull, 30 Mediterranean Gull inc 3  juveniles, 2x 3cy Caspian Gulls, 118 Sandwich Tern, 12 Common Tern and 134 Little Tern on Beacon ponds. 

Wader numbers continue to increase day by day, totals today of 4000 Dunlin, 310 Redshank, 440 Knot, 123 Golden Plover and 26 Whimbrel.

Highlights from the day included a Cetti's Warbler at Sammy's, an unusual July record, 2 Black Redstart a juvenile at the Point and another along the canal, 2 Spoonbill still at Kilnsea wetlands along with an adult Yellow-legged Gull and the Great White Egret into roost again at Pancho pond.

A warm sunny day witha F1-2 northerly.  Watches: 0555-1000.

The Kilnsea wetlands/Beacon ponds area was graced by the presence of 2 adult Roseate Terns during the day, amore regular sight in August and September. The same area also held 2 Spoonbill and the juvenile Capsian Gull. The Humber saw a noticeable increase twith now over 2000 Dunlin present.

Moving today were 4 Eider, 42 Oystercatcher, 19 Whimbrel, 5 Dunlin, 3 Sanderling, a Greenshank, 190 Little Gull, 24 Kittiwake, 6 Arctic Tern, an Arctic Skua and a Binxie.

A hot and sunny day with a F2 easterly.  Watches: 0540-1000 1440-1940.

The first juvenile Caspain Gull was a nice early in the season find at Kilnsea wetlands along with a good count of 37 Mediterranean Gull. The same area also holding 3 Spoonbill, the drake Scaup and 30 Little Egret. The Great White Egret dropped into Pancho pond to roost again in the evening. The day also saw a Wheatear by the Tankblocks and 2 juvenile Chiffchaff trapped in Churchfield suggesting local breeding.

Some movement was noted again over the sea, the best being 20 Oystercatcher, 2 Ringed Plover, 71 Sanderling, 4 Whimbrel, 52 Dunlin, 10 Turnstone, 10 Redshank, a Knot, 673 Kittiwake, an Arctic Skua and 304 Sandwich Tern, while overland 17 Swift, a Grey Wagtail, 15 Swallow, 107 Sand Martin and a Flava Wagtail.

On the wing today some ncie totaks odf Dragonflies were returned with 9 Small Red-eyed Damselfy, 7 Emerald Damselfly, 45 Emperors, 123 Common Darter and 2 Ruddy Darter.

Ringing: 2 Whitethroat, 1 Sedge Warbler, 2 Chiffchaff, 2 Dunnock, 1 Great Tit, 1 Robin, 18 Sand Martin, 6 Swallow, 1 Reed Bunting, 1 Goldfinch. (35 of 10sp).

A cooler day, cloud breaking up with a F2-4 south easterly. Watches: 0540-1400.

The Red-necked Phalarope was on the Humber off the Riverside, the Great White Egret in the area, again roosting at Pancho pond and the Spoonbill still on Kilnsea wetlands. 

There was some movement again with a Teal, 1 Tufted Duck, an Eider, 57 Common Scoter, 5 Manx Shearwater, 139 Gannet, 91 Oystercatcher, 2 Curlew, 28 Whimbrel, 9 Knot, 28 Sanderling, 9 Dunlin, 5 Redshank, 2 Turnstone, 160 Sandwich Tern, 2 Arctic Skua and 6 Kittiwake.

The first juvenile Marsh Harrier of the autumn blogged the area as did the first returning juvenile Dunlin among 800 adults, 6 Greenshank were on the Humber, a Green Sandpiper wandered the area and 60 Little Gull on Kilnsea wetlands.

Ringing: 1 Grey Wagtail, 1 Great Tit, 3 House Sparrow, 4 Whitethroat, 1 Blackcap, 1 Blackbird, 1 Wren, 2 Dunnock, 1 Robin.

A hot sunny blue sky day along with a light south easterly. Watches: 0545-1015.

A Red-necked Phalarope was a nice find on Beacon ponds, flying off towards the Humber in the early afternoon. The Great White Egret was still in the area, roosting at Pancho pond in the evening. 

In the morning a Roseate Tern flew north past the seawtch hut.

A hot bright sunny day with a F1-3 south easterly.  Watches: 0545-1330.

There was no sign of the Rose-coloured Starling, but the Great White Egret was still wandering the area and the 4 Spoonbill and drake Scaup still on Kilnsea wetlands. This area also held 3 Wigeon, 4 Teal, a Tufted Duck, 1 Marsh Harrier, 145 Redshank, 5 Greenshank, 18 Mediterranean Gull and 78 Sandwich Tern.

Moving were 163 Common Scoter, 48 Gannet, 17 Oystercatcher, 20 Knot, 41 Dunlin, 9 Redshank, a Wood Sandpiper, 2 Sanderling, 350 Little Gull, 3 Kittiwake, 75 Sandwich Tern, a Marsh Harrier, 204 Swallow, 104 Sand Martin, 61 Swift, 2 Grey Wagtail and a Tree Pipit.

Ringing: 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 8 Sand Martin, 5 Swallow, 6 Whitethroat, 2 Blackcap, 1 Sedge Warbler, 4 Reed Warbler, 2 Blackbird, 7 House Sparrow, 1 Wren, 3 Dunnock, 1 Greenfinch.

A mixed day of sunny spells, wamth, light rain but cool in the F4 northerly.  Watches: 0550-1330.

It was a good day overall, a fantastic total of over 1000+ Little Gull in the area, 778 north over the sea in the morning, may have been different to the around 1000 north over the Humber towards Beacon ponds in the evening. The Rose-coloured Starling remained for its 7th day at Driftwood, 3 Spoonbill and drake Scaup at Kilnsea wetlands and the Great White Egret still around the area. Other birds of note in the Kilnsea wetlands area included a Tufted Duck, 46 Black-tailed Godwit, 2 Common Sandpiper, 2 Greenshank, 3 Mediterranean Gull and 5 Arctic Tern.

Movement over the sea was a bit quieter then recently with few Waders in the northerly, with 4 Tufted Duck, a Scaup, 115 Common Scoter, a Red-throated Diver, 1 Great Northen Diver, 2 Manx Shearwater, 6 Oystercatcher, 3 Knot, 35 Kittiwake, 97 Sandwich Tern, 2 Arctic Skua and 2 Puffin.

Ringing: 5 Barn Owl, 8 Whitethroat, 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 1 Blackcap, 1 Sedge Warbler, 2 Dunnock, 1 Wren.

A warm sunny day with a brisk F5 north westerly. Watches: 0540-1010.

The Rose-coloured Starling was yet again at Driftwood, the 4 Spoonbill and drake Scaup at Kilnsea wetlands and in the evening a Great White Egret at the Borrow pit roosted at Panch pond. 

Moving today were 12 Shelduck, 13 Teal, 38 Common Scoter, a Fulmar, 2 Manx Shearwater, 181 Gannet, 11 Oystercatcher, 51 Kittiwake, 103 Little Gull, 40 Sandwich Tern, a Great Skua, 3 Arctic Skua, 24 Guillemot, 14 Razorbill, 24 Puffin and 68 Large Auk sp.

There were increases in 'grounded' Waders on the Humber and Kilnsea wetlands/Beacon ponds with 5 Wigeon, 4 Teal, the Pochard, 15 Little Egret, 5 Whimbrel, 15 Black-tailed Godwit, 653 Dunlin, a Green Sandpiper, 25 Redshank, 1000 Black-headed Gull, 135 Little Gull, 6 Mediterranean Gull, 38 Sandwich Tern and 92 Little Tern.

Rain to start gave way to sunny spells in the F3 north westerly.  Watches: 0530-1015.

There was more movement today, over the sea, in particular returning Waders. Totals were an Eider, 366 Common Scoter, 2 Great Northern Diver, a Fulmar, 1 Manx Shearwater, 100 Gannet, 6 Oystercatcher, 2 Whimbrel, 33 Black-tailed Godwit, 38 Knot, a Sanderling, 15 Dunlin, 14 Redshank, 3 Greenshank, 10 Kittiwake, 91 Little Gull, 40 Sandwich Tern, an adult Roseate Tern north after a brief spell on Beacon ponds and 5 Puffin.

The Rose-coloured Starling remained mainly in and around Driftwood, while a 2cy Caspian Gull was on Kilnsea wetlands along witha drake Scaup and 3 Spoonbill. Other bits from here were the Pochard,  15 Little Egret, 346 Dunlin, 5 Greenshank, 1250 Black-headed Gull, 30 Little Gull, 29 Mediterranean Gull, 70 Little Tern and a Short-eared Owl, while 2 Cuckoo were in the triangle.

Ringing: 2 Stock Dove, 1 Wood Pigeon, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 4 Whitethroat, 1 Sedge Warbler, 1 Wren.

A day of sunshine and rain with a F3 easterly.  Watches: 0600-1215.

The day continued much the same as the previous few, with the Rose-coloured Starling still showing well around Kilnsea and the 4 Spoonbill still on the Wetlands. The day though, saw more movement than of late over the sea, with returning 'autumn' Waders, giving totals of 22 Teal, 5 Tufted Duck, 2 Red-breasted Merganser, 231 Common Scoter, 5 Manx Shearwater, a Little Egret, 59 Gannet, 6 Whimbrel, 2 Curlew, a Black-tailed Godwit, 43 Knot, 7 Sanderling, 38 Redshank, 10 Kittwake, 10 Black-heade Gull, 37 Little Gull, a Gtreat Skua, 2 Arctic Skua, 9 Guillemot, 2 Razorbill and 7 Puffin.

The Kilnsea wetlands/Beacon ponds area was gain busy, totals returned of 11 Teal, a Pochard, 1 Tufted Duck, 14 Little Egret, 4 Black-tailed Godwit, 60 Knot, 23 Sanderling, 92 Dunlin, 3 Common Sandpiper, 15 Redshank, a Greenshank, 270 Little Gull, 2 Mediterranean Gull, 10 Sandwich Tern with the Grasshopper Warbler still singing in Easington.

Ringing: 2 Wood Pigeon, 1 Whitethroat.

A mixed day of mist/fog, sunny spells with rain and a F3 douth easterly.  Watches: 0615-0945.

The Rose-coloured Starling continued to entertain in Kilnsea and the 4 Spoonbill likewise on the wetlands. The wetlands area also had most of the decent birding with a Pochard, 2 Tufted Duck, 16 Little Egret, 7 Whimbrel, a Ruff, 270 Dunlin, a Greenshank, 60 Little Gull, 11 Mediterranean Gull, 63 Little Tern and 6 Common Tern.

Little on the move today with just 2 Gadwall, 2 Whimbrel, 3 Redshank, a Greenshank and an Arctic Skua.

Ringing: 1 Swallow, 5 Whitethroat, 1 Reed Warbler, 2 Dunnock, 1 Blackbird, 2 House Sparrow, 1 Starling.

A damp foggy start, sun through by mid afternoon, warm with a F3 north easterly.  Watches: 0500-0900.

The Rose-coloured Starling continued to commute the area in Kilnsea, while nearby on the wetlands there were 4 Spoonbill, a Curlew Sandpiper, 1 Wood Sandpiper and 20 Mediterranean Gull, plus 9 Teal, the Pochard, 13 Little Egret, 2 Common Sandpiper, 30 Little Gull and 2 Short-eared Owl.

Ringing: 4 Swallow, 2 Blackbird, 1 Dunnock, 1 Starling, 1 Wren.

A warm and sunny day with a F3 westerly.  Watches: 0540-1015.

There was a new ROSE-COLOURED STARLING in Kilnsea (with no sightings of previous birds since 24th June), the male Red-backed Shrike remained showing well along the Canal and the 3 Spoonbill were still on Kilnsea wetlands.This area also had another good count of 272 Little Gull, 15 Teal,a Pochard, 11 Little Egret, 16 Black-tailed Godwit, a Greenshank, 6 Common Tern and a Short-eared Owl.

On the move today were 40 Shelduck, 3 Teal, 58 Common Scoter, 22 Gannet, 3 Avocet, 3 Whimbrel, 61 Bar-tailed Godwit, 10 Black-tailed Godwit, a Redshank, 3 Mediterranean Gull, 11 Sandwich Tern, an Arctic Skua, 18 Swift, a Hobby, 31 Sand Martin and a Grey Wagtail. 

Other bits of note were a Green Sandpiper and 3 Cuckoo in Kilnsea, 300 Golden Plover, 140 Curlew and 140 Redshank on the Humber.

Ringing: 5 Little Tern, 5 Whitethroat, 1 Blue Tit, 2 Dunnock, 3 Linnet.

Overcast with showers in a F5 south westerly.  Watches: 0530-1200.

Sightings from today included a nice ALPINE SWIFT south past Sandy beaches then the Warren, among a passage of 2068 Swift. The RUFOUS TURTLE DOVE continued to be seen in private gardens at Greenfield bungalows, mainly by the kindness of Paul and Georgia French, opening their garden at certain times for access to the bird, though still visiting other areas around the village

There was some interesting and variied movement, with the first pulse of returnng Waders, which included 243 Shelduck (113 south, 118 in/off), 28 Teal, 44 Common Scoter, 4 Little Egret, 119 Gannet, 11 Oystercatcher, 2 Lapwing, a Whimbrel, 1 Curlew, 156 Black-tailed Godwit, a Knot, 6 Dunlin, 22 Redshank, 224 Kittiwake 456 Little Gull (391 south), 14 Sandwich Tern, 2 Common Tern, an Arctic Tern, 1 Arctic Skua, 8 Sand Martin, 3 Swallow, a House Martin and 2 Yellow Wagtail.

The Spoonbill remained on Kilnsea wetlands, with other sightings from this area, a Tufted Duck, 3 Mediterranean Gull and a Caspian Gull plus 2 Curlew Sandpiper, a Greenshank and 34 Dunlin on Beacon ponds.

Watches: 0540-1515.

The RUFOUS TURTLE DOVE was still showing well in Easington, while there were 5 Spoonbill today (one Kilnsea wetlands, 4 South) and 3160 Swift flew south. 

Movement over the sea saw a small trickle of Waders heading south, totals were 3 Teal, 95 Common Scoter, a Red-throated Diver, 10 Gannet, 2 Cormorant, 6 Oystercatcher, a Grey Plover, 1 Whimbrel, 13 Curlew, 2 Bar-tailed Godwit, 2 Black-tailed Godwit, a Ruff, 3 Redshank, 36 Kittiwake, 155 Little Gull, 8 Mediterranean Gull, 18 Sandwich Tern, 30 Sand Martin, 14 Swallow, 7 House Martin and 61 Starling.

Other sightings included 33 Teal, a Tufted Duck, 21 Little Egret, 11 Black-tailed Godwit, a Common Sandpiper, 1 Greenshank in the Kilnsea wetlands area with a Cuckooo at the Warren and Hobby and a Grasshopper Warbler in Easington.

Watches: 0545-1515.

The RUFOUS TURTLE DOVE continued to show on and off in various areas around Easington., with many birders then taking the short trip upto Bempton for the Albatross. The Spoonbill was also still present on Kilnsea wetlands along with 21 Little Gull, a Kingfisher was at the Warren along with 139 Golden Plover.

On the move today were a Manx Shearwater, 1 Teal, 10 Oystercatcher, 3 Whimbrel, a Curlew, 3 Bar-tailed Godwit, 5 Dunlin, 84 Little Gull, 19 Sandwich Tern, 17 Common Tern, 2 Arctic Tern, 206 Swift, a Hobby, 32 Sand Martin, 11 Swallow, 5 House Martin, 2 Grey Wagtail and 3 Alba Wagtail.

Up in Easington a Bedstraw Hawkmoth was a good overnight catch.

A day of sunny spells and showers with a F3 south easterly.  Watches: 0550-1005.

The RUFOUS TURTLE DOVE was fortunately still present in the afternoon, after a long anxious wait for many, appearing in gardens on Vicars lane and occasionally showing very well, with a Crossbill also present here. 

Moving were 37 Shelduck, 13 Common Scoter, 5 Gannet, a Whimbrel, 3 Curlew, 6 Little Gull, an Arctic Tern, 89 Swift, a Hobby, 14 Sand Martin, 6 Swallow, 5 House Martin and 4 Siskin.

The Kilnsea wetlands/Beacon ponds area held a Shoveler, 1 Wigeon, a Pochard, the Spoonbill, 14 Little Egret, 2 Curlew Sandpiper, 105 Dunlin, 40 Redshank, 32 Little Gull and 62 Little Tern, with a Short-eared Owl at the Warren.

Ringing: 4 Dunnock, 2 Robin, 3 Blackbird, 2 Goldfinch, 2 Greenfinch,1 House Sparrow, 1 Starling, 1 Wren.

A warm, sunny day with some light evening rain and a F3 south easterly.  Watches: 0540-1100.

The 2nd record of WESTERN RUFOUS TURTLE DOVE  for Spurn was a major surpirise in private Easington gardens. If present tomorrow, then access will be available from 0800-1200 only, but parking is limited and the neighbours will not be happy with the intrusion. Observers here were also treated to a flyover of 2 Spoonbill heading north, while a male Grey-headed Wagtail was on the path at Chalky point, flying off towards Beacon ponds.

A cloudy day, remained cool in the F4 north easterly.  Watches: 0545-1010.

The Spoonbill remained on Kilnsea wetlands and a Treecreeper was in Kilnsea, while annual are still hard to pin down in the area. 

Moving were 3 Shelduck, 17 Teal, a Tufted Duck, 162 Common Scoter, a Red-throated Diver, 1 Fulmar, a Manx Shearwater, 135 Gannet, 3 Whimbrel, 7 Curlew in/off, 8 Kittiwake, 17 Guillemot, 11 Razorbill and 8 Puffin.

Other bits of interest included a Pochard, 1 Tufted Duck, 9 Little Egret, 27 Black-tailed Godwit and 8 Little Gull on Kilnsea wetlands.
