Cloudy with rain on and off and a strong F5-6 south easterly. Watches: 0615-1315.

There were still 6 Pale-bellied Brent on the Humber and 124 Dark-bellied Brents at Chalk bank containing a hybrid Black Brant x Dark-bellied Brent. 145 Shelduck were present here also.

A small amount of movement of land and sea with a 8 Swallow, 28 House Martin, 6 Alba Wagtail, 55 Meadow Pipit, a Rock Pipit, 256 Linnet, 128 Goldfinch and 8 Reed Bunting, 320 Pink-footed Geese, a Whooper Swan, 1 Shoveler, 50 Wigeon, 94 Teal, 4 Purple Sandpiper, 10 Sandwich Tern, 5 Common Tern, 5 Great Skua and 2 Arctic Skua. 

There was a bit of a clearout of the few migrants present with just, 12 House Martin, 9 Chiffchaff, a Whitethroat, 4 Goldcrest, a Whinchat, 1 Stonechat, 6 Wheatear, 2 Grey Wagtail, a Tree Pipit and a Lesser Redpoll.

Kilnsea wetlands remained good with Wildfowl numbers slowly increasing, 325 Wigeon, 23 Pintail, 120 Teal, 10 Little Egret, 40 Black-tailed Godwit, 6 Ruff, a Common Sandpiper, 1 Spotted Redshank, a Greenshank and 21 Mediterranean Gull.

A day of sunshine with blustery F5 north westerly.  Watches: 0620-1450.

A small arrival brought an elusive Red-breasted Flycatcher to Easington and a Ring Ouzel to the Warren, along with 4 Willow Warbler, 22 Chiffchaff, a Sedge Warbler, 3 Blackcap, 2 Lesser Whitethroat, 2 Whitethroat, 2 Goldcrest, 3 Song Thrush, a Spotted Flycatcher, 2 Stonechat, 5 Wheatear, a Yellow Wagtail, 2 Grey Wagtail, a White Wagtail, 3 Rock Pipit, 39 Chaffinch, 3 Brambling and 15 Siskin.

Some movement over the sea , the best being 131 Pink-footed Geese, 13 Shoveler, 279 Wigeon, 7 Pintail, 519 Teal, a Tufted Duck, 106 Common Scoter, 141 Red-throated Diver, a Manx Shearwater, 341 Gannet, a Shag, 10 Cormorant, 4 Golden Plover, a Ruff, 9 Snipe, 22 Sandwich tern, a Great Skua and an Arctic Skua. Kilnsea wetlands held 183 Wigeon, the escaped Chiloe Wigeon, 29 Pintail, 404 Teal, 18 Little Egret, 60 Black-tailed Godwit, 3 Ruff, a Curlew Sandpiper, a Common Sandpiper, 2 Spotted Redshank and 7 Greenshank.

Ringing: 1 Song Thrush, 2 Dunnock, 1 Goldcrest, 1 House Sparrow, 3 Tree Sparrow, 2 Goldfinch, 1 Reed Bunting.

A sunny day but blustery in the F5-6 southerly.  Watches: 0610-1300.

A nice young female RUSTIC BUNTING was trapped in Churchfield., but overall little change in other migarnt numberss with a Hobby, 1 Willow Warbler, 9 Chiffchaff, a Grasshopper Warbler, 1 Blackcap, a Whitethroat, 4 Song Thrush, a Spotted Flycatcher, 3 Stonechat, 3 Wheatear, a Grey Wagtail, 2 White Wagtail, 5 Rock Pipit, 3 Brambling and 30 Siskin.

Some decent overland movement saw a Marsh Harrier, 1Jackdaw, 14 Skylark, a Sand Martin, 70 Swallow, 28 House Martin, 8 Starling, 2 Grey Wagtail, 19 Alba Wagtail, 769 Meadow Pipit, 4 Rock Pipit, 3 Chaffinch, a Brambling, 14 Greenfinch, 854 Linnet, 259 Goldfinch, 12 Siskin and 25 Reed Bunting head south, while the best of the sea were 40 Pink-footed Geese, 35 Wigeon, 3 Pintail, an Eider, 1 Red-breasted Merganser, 6 Little Gull and 52 Razorbill.

A fantastic count of 52 Pintail on Kilnsea wetlands along with219 Wigeon, 42 Black-tailed Godwit, 4 Ruff, a Common Sandpiper, 2 Spotted Redshank,.9 Greenshank and 2 Short-eared Owl. 

Ringing: 1 Song Thrush, 1 Robin, 1 Blackcap, 1 Great Tit, 2 Blue Tit, 1 Tree Sparrow, 3 House Sparrow, 6 Goldfinch, 1 Greenfinch.

A day of heavy rain and a strong F6 south westerly.  Watches: 0625-1745.

It was a decent day over the sea, maybe surprisingly so given the wind direction. The best of the day was a northbound Leach's Petrel along with a strange record of a Ruddy Duck flying south with Common Scoter, the first for many years since the cull. The day also brought 6 Shoveler, 400 Wigeon, 19 Pintail, 1122 Teal, 4 Tufted Duck, 2 Eider, 257 Common Scoter, a Sooty Shearwater, 9 Manx Shearwater, 628 Gannet, 4 Lapwing, a Purple Sandpiper, 6 Great Skua, 5 Arctic Skua, a Long-tailed Skua, 439 Razorbill, 667 Large Auk sp and a Puffin.

Few migrants on the ground the best being, a Cetti's Warbler, 2 Song Thrush, a Spotted Flycatcher, 1 Pied Flycatcher, 3 Wheatear, 2 Brambling and 4 Siskin with little sign of any change. There were 4 Scaup, 105 Brent Geese, a Pale-bellied Brent and 3 Whimbrel on the Humber 

KIlnsea wetlands had 189 Wigeon, 38 Pintail, 176 Teal, a Spoonbill, 20 Black-tailed Godwit, 3 Ruff, a Curlew Sandpiper, 1 Little Stint, a Common Sandpiper, 4 Spotted Redshank, 2 Greenshank and an Arctic Tern.

A decent day with a F3-5 south westelry.  Watches: 0615-1100.

Sightings from today included a Quail in/off, a Nightjar in the evening around Sykes field, the 2 Scaup again on the Humber and 6 Jay back north from the Warren. Others bits on the move included 3 Whooper Swan, 4 Shoveler, 163 Wigeon, 3 Pintail, 488 Teal, 4 Snipe, 28 Sandwich Tern, a Hobby, 2 Jackdaw, 2 Skylark, 10 Swallow, 2 Flava Wagtail, a Grey Wagtail, 2 Alba Wagtail, 655 Meadow Pipit, a Rock Pipit, 40 Chaffinch, 182 Linnet, 25 Goldfinch, 20 Siskin, a Yellowhammer and 15 Reed Bunting.

Migtrant wise 30 Swallow, a Willow Warbler, 14 Chiffchaff, 2 Reed Warbler, a Blackcap, a Lesser Whitethroat, 5 Whitethroat, 6 Song Thrush, 2 Spotted Flycatcher, 4 Redstart, 2 Whinchat, 4 Stonechat, 6 Wheatear, 2 Grey Wagtail, 10 Pied Wagtail, a White Wagtail and 5 Siskin.

Kilnsea wetlands had 2 Spoonbill, a Whooper Swan, 121 Wigeon, 26 Pintail, 143 Teal, 25 Black-tailed Godwit, 3 Ruff, 7 Greenshank, 500 Redshank and 3 Spotted Redshank.and 4 Mediterranean Gull.

Ringing: 1 Chiffchaff, 1 Whitethroat, 1 Song Thrush, 1 Tree Sparrow, 1 Siskin.

A grey day with a light F2-3 south easterly. Watches: 0630-1230.

It was another decent day for the vis miggers, but far fewer Geese, though better overland, the best being a Lapland Bunting along with a Great Spotted Woodpecker, 10 Jackdaw, a Rook, 6 Sand Martin, 98 Swallow, 5 Tree Sparrow, 7 Flava Wagtail, 23 Alba Wagtail, 1209 Meadow Pipit, 11 Chaffinch, a Brambling, 2 Greenfinch, 1127 Linnet, 208 Goldfinch, 9 Siskin, 2 Yellowhammer and 76 Reed Bunting, 688 Pink-footed Geese, 2 Tufted Duck, a Manx Shearwater, 4 Snipe, 157 Little Gull, 7 Sandwich Tern, 30 Common Tern, 5 Great Skua and an Arctic Skua. 

Migrants numbers showed a small increase with a Jack Snipe, 3 Sand Martin, 4 Willow Warbler, 17 Chiffchaff, 3 Reed Warbler, 6 Blackcap, a Lesser Whitethroat, 5 Whitethroat, 3 Song Thrush, 5 Spotted Flycatcher, 4 Redstart, 2 Whinchat, 7 Stonechat, 29 Wheatear, a Rock Pipit and 2 Brambling.

Kilnsea wetlands remains good with a nice selection of species, 2 Spoonbill, 177 Wigeon, 24 Pintail, 63 Little Egret, 47 Black-tailed Godwit, 3 Ruff, a Curlew Sandpiper, 2 Common Sandpiper, 800 Redshank, 3 Spotted Redshank, 12 Greenshank and 40 Mediterranean Gull plus an escaped Chiloe Wigeon and the 6 Pale-bellied Brent Geese on the Humber.

Ringing: 2 Chiffchaff, 1 Song Thrush, 6 Tree Sparrow, 12 Meadow Pipit, 2 Wren, 2 Robin, 1 Stonechat, 3 Reed Bunting.

Bright and sunny with a F5-6 south easterly. Watches: 0600-1830.

The day was dominated by our diligent group of vis-miggers, who put in a phenomenal shift to count a record 12, 245 Pink-footed Geese making their way south. The day also yielded 3 Whooper Swan plus 3 Red-breasted Merganser, 125 Red-throated Diver, 2 Sooty Shearwater, a Manx Shearwater, 4 Snipe, 210 Little Gull, 46 Sandwich Tern, 82 Common Tern, 10 Great Skua, 3 Arctic Skua, a Long-tailed Skua, 11 Razorbill and 243 Large Auk sp. 

The vis miggers also counted a small overland movement of mainly Passerines with a Marsh Harrier, 1 Common Buzzard, 2 Skylark, 5 Sand Martin, 7 Swallow, 13 House Martin, 39 Tree Sparrow, 5 Dunnock, 6 Alba Wagtail, 433 Meadow Pipit, 2 Rock Pipit, 8 Greenfinch, 15 Linnet, 77 Goldfinch, 13 Siskin and 38 Reed Bunting,

Kilnsea wetlands a 2 Spoonbill, 175 Wigeon, 33 Pintail, 104 Teal, 67 Little Egret, 40 Black-tailed Godwit, 4 Ruff, a Curlew Sandpiper, 2 Common Sandpiper, 1000 Redshank, 2 Spotted Redshank, 17 Greenshank, 1000 Black-headed Gull, 34 Mediterranean Gull and 2 Caspian Gull.

While we wait to see if we get any more easterlies, there was still small numbers of migrants about with 2 House Martin, a Willow Warbler, 12 Chiffchaff, a Grasshopper Warbler, 1 Blackcap, 2 Whitethroat, a Pied Flycatcher, a Redstart, 2 Stonechat, 4 Wheatear and a Grey Wagtail.

Ringing: 1 Guillemot, 1 Chiffchaff, 1 Blackcap, 1 Tree Sparrow, 1 Robin, 1 Dunnock, 1 Chaffinch, 1 Greenfinch, 1 Reed Bunting.

Watches: 0630-1810. A sunny day if rather windy with a F4-6 westerly.

Overall  the day saw a trickle of south bound migration, but saying that a good total of 4078 Pink-footed Geese flew south, which was the feature all the way down the east coast, of Scotalnd and England. Other noteworthy bits on the move were 9 Tufted Duck, 143 Red-throated Diver, a Shag, 1 Black Tern, an Arctic Skua, 365 Large Auk sp, a Sand Martin, 7 Swallow, 5 House Martin, 38 Meadow Pipit and 25 Linnet.

Kilnsea wetlands had 96 Wigeon, 19 Pintail, 24 Little Grebe, 2 Spoonbill, 107 Little Egret, 150 Curlew, 50 Bar-tailed Godwit, 50 Black-tailed Godwit, 3 Ruff, a Common Sandpiper, 1550 Redshank, 4 Spotted Redshank, 7 Greenshank, 53 Mediterranean Gull, a Caspian Gull  and 1 Yellow-legged Gull. The 7 Pale-bellied Brent remianed on the Humber.

Few migarnts left in the area and still no Yellow-browed Warblers this autumn, the best being 8 Chiffchaff, a Lesser Whitethroat, 1 Song Thrush, a Redstart, 3 Stonechat, 4 Wheatear and a Grey Wagtail.

A warm sunny day with a F2-4 westerly. Watches: 0620-1030.

There was not much happening on the migrant front, but again some decent visible migration and good birding in the Kilnsea wetlands area, where the Garganey was stilll present and yet another record count of 112 Little Egret was made. Present also were 2 Spoonbill, 181 Wigeon, 70 Mallard, 15 Pintail, 89 Teal, a Little-ringed Plover, 49 Black-tailed Godwit, 3500 Dunlin, 2 Little Stint, a Common Sandpiper, 600 Redshank, 4 Spotted Redshank, 12 Greenshank and 2 Caspain Gull, with around 600 Guillemot present offshore from here. The 6 Pale-bellied Brents were again on the Humber with 33 Dark-bellied Brent Geese.

Overland movement recorded a Great Spotted Woodpecker, 9 Skylark, 58 Swallow, 9 House Martin, 10 House Sparrow, 8 Tree Sparrow, a Dunnock, 4 Flava Wagtail, 5 Grey Wagtail, 17 Alba Wagtail, 856 Meadow Pipit, 2 Rock Pipit, 24 Greenfinch, 280 Linnet, 91 Goldfinch and 2 Yellowhammer, while the best over the sea were  2 Brent Geese, 3 Pintail, an Eider, 12 Whimbrel, 16 Little Gull, a Great Skua, 1 Arctic Skua, 238 Large Auk sp and a Puffin.

In the bushes small numbers of migrants were still present, 2 Cetti's Warbler, 2 Willow Warbler, 11 Chiffchaff, a Reed Warbler, 1 Blackcap, a Lesser Whitethroat, 3 Whitethroat, 6 Song Thrush, a Spotted Flycatcher, 1 Pied Flycatcher, 3 Redstart, 3 Whinchat, 5 Stonechat, 4 Wheatear, a Grey Wagtail, 1 Tree Pipit and 2 Siskin.

Cloudy start, became warm and sunny with a F3 northerly. Watches: 0610-1815.

There was a small, but nice arrival late morning bringing the first anticipated Thrush arrival, with 33 Song Thrush, ‘sipping’ overhead and from deep in bushes, but the best was an Ortolan Bunting at Sammy’s, where a Turtle Dove was also present. The day also brought a vocal Common Rosefinch to the Warren which flew off high south, the Red-backed Shrike still elusive in the canal bushes, the Dotterel again on the Humber off the Warren, 3 Cetti’s Warbler (Warren, Sammy’s and Point), plus 8 Short-eared Owl, a Jack Snipe, 12 Willow Warbler, 13 Chiffchaff, 3 Reed Warbler, 2 Blackcap, 3 Garden Warbler, 2 Lesser Whitethroat, 5 Whitethroat, 2 Goldcrest, 2 Spotted Flycatcher, 4 Pied Flycatcher, 14 Redstart, 6 Whinchat, 9 Wheatear, 2 Tree Pipit, 4 Rock Pipit, 14 Chaffinch, 3 Brambling, 10 Siskin and a Yellowhammer.

The day also brought the frist 20 Pink-footed Geese heading south, in what turned out to be quite busy for movement in general with 4 Brent Geese, 5 Shelduck, 5 Shoveler, 42 Wigeon, a Pintail, 529 Teal, a Tufted Duck, 9 Eider, 124 Common Scoter, 223 Red-throated Diver, a Great Crested Grebe, 1 Grey Heron, 90 Gannet, a Sparrowhawk, 2 Marsh harrier, 6 Ruff, 2 Snipe, 482 Kittiwake, 113 Little Gull, 2 Roseate Tern, 299 Common Tern, 3 Great Skua, 6 Arctic Skua, 3 Long-tailed Skua (including one of the long stayers), 20 Guillemnot, a Puffin, 2 Kestrel, 2 Hobby, 2 Skyalrk, 47 Swallow, a Song Thrush, 1 Flava Wagtail, 10 Grey Wagtail, 4 Alba Wagtail, 2434 Meadow Pipit, a Tree Pipit, 4 Rock Pipit and 4 Chaffinch.

Kilnsea wetlands held a record 10 Spoonbill in the morning and a record 106 Little Egret in the evening, how things have changed for both these species!, This area also had a Little-ringed Plover, 25 Black-tailed Godwit, 7 Ruff, 2 Curlew Sandpiper, a Little Stint, 2 Green Sandpiper, 500 Redshank, 3 Spotted Redshank, 32 Greenshank, 41 Mediterranean Gull and a Caspian Gull. On the Humber there were 7 Pale-bellied Brent Geese and 46 Dark-bellied Brents.

Sunny and warm to start, heavy rain from early afternoon with a F3 south easterly. Watches: 0600-1830.

The day saw a good movement over the sea, our first returning Brent Geese to the Humber and some new migrants in, the best being a juvenile Red-backed Shrike rather elusive in the canal bushes, with the day also bringing an eclipse Garganey to Kilnsea wetlands, our first Jack Snipe of the autumn at Chalky point, while the Dotterel again on the Humber off the Warren. Further totals were 7 Willow Warbler, 10 Chiffchaff, 2 Reed Warbler, 3 Blackcap, 2 Garden Warbler, 2 Lesser Whitethroat, 4 Whitethroat, 2 Goldcrest, 5 Song Thrush, a Pied Flycatcher, 2 Redstart, 5 Whinchat, 7 Wheatear, a Tree Pipit, 4 Rock Pipit and 19 Chaffinch.

The sea was where much of the action was and received an all-day watch with good numbers of Wildfowl, 36 Dark-bellied Brent, 19 Shelduck, 352 Wigeon, 21 Pintail, 2103 Teal, a Tufted Duck, 3 Eider, 4 Velvet Scoter, 433 Common Scoter, a Red-breasted Merganser, 167 Red-throated Diver, 420 Gannet, 2 Whimbrel, a Curlew, 2 Ruff, 1648 Dunlin, a Purple Sandpiper, 7 Snipe, 47 Kittiwake, 73 Little Gull, 5 Arctic Tern, a Great Skua, 1 Pomarine Skua, 24 Arctic Skua, 2 Juvenile Long-tailed Skua lingering offshore, 11 Razorbill and 2 Puffin.

Kilnsea wetlands had a Spoonbill, 117 Wigeon, 35 Pintail, 135 Teal, 56 Little Egret, 33 Black-tailed Godwit, 9 Ruff, a Common Sandpiper, 1 Green Sandpiper, 950 Redshank, 2 Spotted Redshank, 27 Greenshank, a Little Stint, 1 Curlew Sandpiper, 35 Little Gull, 2 Caspian Gull and 30 Mediterranean Gull. The first 41 Dark-bellied Brent Geese returned to the Humbe, where the 7 Pale-bellied Brent Geese were still present.

Ringing: 1 Starling 1 Wren, 2 Wood Pigeon, 1 Blackbird, 1 Robin, 2 Willow Warbler, 1 Reed Warbler, 1 Whitethroat, 1 Blackcap, 1 Dunnock, 2 Greenfinch, 2 Goldfinch, 2 House Sparrow.

It was another day of few migrants, but an elusive Red-breasted Flycatcher and Barred Warbler were at the Point, while further totals were a Long-eared Owl, 2 Short-eared Owl, 2 Swift, 2 Cetti's Warbler, 5 Willow Warbler, 8 Chiffchaff, 2 Sedge Warbler, 5 Reed Warbler, 3 Blackcap, a Garden Warbler, 1 Goldcrest, 3 Song Thrush, a Mistle Thrush, 1 Pied Flycatcher, 2 Redstart, 2 Whinchat, 10 Wheatear, a White Wagtail and 10 Siskin.

The juvenile Dotterel was again with Golden Plover off the Warren and at Sammy's and 8 Spoonbill were on Kilnsea wetlands and after a fly about headed off north, while another increase saw a record 87 Little Egret recorded, along with a Great White Egret, 21 Black-tailed Godwit, a Little-ringed Plover, 5 Ruff, 2 Curlew Sandpiper, 2 Little Stint, 4 Spotted Redshank and a Caspian Gull. The 7 Pale-bellied Brent were still along the Canal by the tank blocks.

The vismiggers had a slightly quieter movement with a Marsh Harrier, 2 Grey Heron, 3 Ruff, 2 Kestrel, 21 Jackdaw,14 Rook, 1905 Meadow Pipit, 4 Tree Pipit, 4 Grey Wagtail, 1 Alba Wagtail, 8 Flava Wagtail, 41 Swallow, 10 House Martin, 30 House Sparrow, a Brambling, 14 Chaffinch, 6 Greenfinch, 57 Goldfinch, 188 Linnet, a Corn Bunting and 47 Reed Bunting. The sea had 2 Shoveler, 55 Wigeon, 22 Pintail, 187 Teal, 20 Tufted Duck, 74 Common Scoter, 68 Red-throated Diver, 42 Gannet, a Whimbrel, 3 Snipe, a Common Sandpiper, 144 Little Gull, 226 Common Tern, a Great Skua, 3 Arctic skua, a Pomarine Skua and a lingering Long-tailed Skua.

Ringing: 1 Wood Pigeon, 2 Meadow Pipit, 1 Robin, 4 Dunnock, 1 Sedge Warbler, 2 Reed Warbler, 1 Cetti's Warbler, 1 Whitethroat, 1 Garden Warbler, 1 Willow Warbler, 1 Great Tit, 11 Tree Sparrow, 10 House Sparrow, 7 Reed Bunting.

The 5th ISABELLINE WHEATEAR for Spurn was a nice find this morning on the rocks at Easington gas terminal. Please park in Easington square and walk up Vicars lane, then take the coastal path to view. There wee few other migrants about with 2 Short-eared Owl, 4 Willow Warbler, 5 Chiffchaff, a Blackcap, 5 Whitethroat, 7 Goldcrest, a Pied Flycatcher, 6 Wheatear, a Brambling and 6 Siskin.

The juvenile Dotterel was again with Golden Plover at Sammy's and 9 Spoonbill were on Kilnsea wetlands where a fine total of 76 Little Egret was aslo made, along with 15 Black-tailed Godwit, 5 Ruff, a Curlew Sandpiper, 3 Little Stint, a Spotted Redshank, 50 Mediterranean Gull and a Caspian Gull. The 7 Pale-bellied Brent remianed along the Canal by the tank blocks.

The vismiggers had a decent movement with 3 Ruff, 19 Jackdaw, 4 Rook, 4162 Meadow Pipit, 7 Grey Wagtail, 3 Alba Wagtail, 7 Flava Wagtail, 142 Swallow, 2 Sand Martin, 36 House Martin, 11 Dunnock, 60 Tree Sparrow, 10 Chaffinch, 2 Siskin, 45 Goldfinch, 161 Linnet and 16 Reed Bunting.

The numbers of grounded migrants continue to fall, 3 Short-eared Owl, a Hobby, 21 Kestrel, 4 Cett's Warbler, 5 Willow Warbler, 4 Chiffchaff, a Sedge Warbler, 1 Reed Warbler, 2 Blackcap, 3 Garden Warbler, a Lesser Whitethroat, 4 Whitethroat, 2 Song Thrush, a Spotted Flycatcher, 1 Pied Flycatcher, a Redstart, 3 Whinchat, 9 Wheatear, 8 Yellow Wagtail and a Siskin.

On the move over a decently busy sky were  Marsh Harrier, a Great Spotted Woodpecker, 11 Jackdaw, 5 Rook, 2 Sand Martin, 40 Swallow, 22 House Martin, 150 Tree Sparrow, 3 Dunnock, 5 Flava Wagtail, 8 Grey Wagtail, 4 White Wagtail, 2946 Meadow Pipit, a Tree Pipit, 4 Chaffinch, 6 Greenfinch, 213 Linnet, 22 Goldfinch, 7 Siskin and 6 Reed Bunting, while over the sea a Pale-bellied Brent Goose, 7 Wigeon, 4 Teal, 10 Common Scoter, 19 Red-throated Diver, a Sooty Shearwater, 27 Gannet, 9 Cormorant, a Whimbrel, 10 Bar-tailed Godwit, 4 Snipe, 11 Kittiwake, 84 Little Gull, 480 Common Tern, 2 Arctic Skua and the lingering Long-tailed Skua.

Kilnsea wetlands had the now familiar German ringed Caspian Gull, one of two present along with 6 Pintail, 15 Little Egret, a Little-ringed Plover, 20 Black-tailed Godwit, 6 Ruff, a Curlew Sandpiper, 1 Little Stint, 3 Common Sandpiper, a Green Sandpiper, 1 Spotted Redshank, 6 Greenshank and 40 Mediterranean Gull. In the Sammy's area, 3 Marsh Harrier, a Red Kite and 13 Common Buzzard jostled for airspace.

Ringing: 1 Cetti's Warbler, 1 Garden Warbler, 6 Meadow Pipit, 1 Song Thrush, 11 Tree Sparrow, 2 House Sparrow, 2 Goldfinch, 1 Greenfinch, 1 Chaffinch, 1 Reed Bunting.

Warm with sunny spells and a F2-3 easterly. Watches: 0630-1230.

The easterly winds have not brought a noticeable arival yet, but in the meantime our first twitchable HOOPOE since 2015, was a nice find near the lighthouse, showing well mainly seen in flight, but covering quite a big area. Other migrants were 7 Short-eared Owl, 12 Kestrel, a Hobby, 18 Willow Warbler, 7 Chiffchaff, 2 Reed Warbler, 2 Garden Warbler, 3 Lesser Whitethroat, 4 Whitethroat, 2 Goldcrest, a Song Thrush, 2 Spotted Flycatcher, 6 Pied Flycathcer, 5 Redstart, 4 Whinchat, 14 Wheatear, 2 Yellow Wagtail, 23 Pied Wagtail, 4 Tree Pipit and 2 Brambling.

On the move today were a Wigeon, 52 Teal, 4 Velvet Scoter, 63 Common Scoter, 71 Red-throated Diver, 4 Fulmar, a Manx Shearwater, 83 Gannet, a Whimbrel, 14 Kittiwake, 43 Black-headed Gull, a Great Skua, 1 Pomarine Skua, the lingering Long-tailed Skua and a Puffin, while overland a Marsh Harrier, 1 Hobby, 9 Grey Wagtail and 295 Meadow Pipit.

Kilnsea wetlands held its usual and varied array of species, 349 Greylag Geese, 55 Wigeon, 7 Piintail, the Spoonbill, 33 Little Egret, 7 Avocet, a Little-ringed Plover, 51 Black-tailed Godwit, 5 Ruff, 2 Curlew Sandpiper, 3 Little Stint, 3 Snipe, a Common Sandpiper, 450 Redshank, 2 Spotted Redshank, 15 Greenshank, 30 Mediterranean Gull, 2 Caspian Gull and a Barn Owl.

Ringing: 1 Willow Warbler, 1 Chiffchaff, 1 Reed Warbler, 1 Goldcrest, 3 Robin, 1 Wood Pigeon, 16 Tree Sparrow, 1 Reed Bunting.

Overcast but warm to start, heavy rain from 11am and a F3 easterly.

The day never seemed to really get going, with the heavy rain putting a real damper on things. The Dotterel was again on the Humber by the breach while a very early Twite was at the south end of the Warren and 6 Pale-bellied Brent Geese by the tank blocks. There are still a few migrants about with 4 Short-eared Owl, 5 Willow Warbler, 3 Chiffchaff, a Sedeg Warbler, 1 Reed Watrbler, a Blackcap, 2 Garden Warbler, 2 Lesser Whitethroat, 6 Whitethroat, a Spotted Flycatcher, 3 Pied Flycatcher, 3 Whinchat, 4 Wheatear, 5 Yellow Wagtail, a Tree Pipit and 5 Siskin.

Over the sea a juvenile Sabines Gull flew north along with 17 Wigeon, 126 Teal, 130 Common Scoter, 97 Red-throated Diver, 3 Fulmar, a Sooty Shearwater, 96 Gannet, 3 Whimbrel, 156 Little Gull, 43 Sandwich Tern, 2 Great Skua, 10 Arctic Skua, 2 Long-tailed Skua,.16 Guillemot and 7 Puffin, while a Velvet Scoter was on the Humber 

Kilnsea wetlands had a Spoonbill, 53 Little Egret, 14 Pintail, 59 Wigeon, 3 Little Stint, 6 Curlew Sandpiper, 52 Black-tailed Godwit, 746 Redshank, 3 Spotted Redshank, 27 Greenshank, 139 Mediterranean Gull and a Caspian Gull.

The 2nd Striped Hawkmoth for Spurn was trapped overnight in Easington.

Ringing: 1 Pied Flycatcher, 1 Garden Warbler, 1 Willow Warbler, 12 Goldfinch.

The day after another great Migfest and lots of goodbyes to those who stayed overnight and reflecting on fantastic work by all the volunteers who make this happen. It also wouldn't be the fantastic event without the eager group of visitors who attend each Migfest to see what all the fuss is about. We hope to see you all again next year? A big thankyou should also go out to Sandy Beaches caravan site for allowing un access to the club house and hosting us in Northfield. In the meantime many of the locals and volunteers who had been busy at Migfest took the opportunity to go see the Green Warbler at Buckton.

Details to come but sightings from the day were a juvenile Sabines Gull north plus a Phalarope sp, a good total of 4 Purple Sandpiper (3 north), the Dotterel again on the Humber with Golden Plover, a nice flock of 17 Pale-bellied Brents on Beacon ponds, while 2 Pied Flycatcher and a Redstart were at the Warren and the first autumn Lapland Bunting at chalk bank and  2 Brambling in Easington and at the Point.

- The second full day of the Spurn Migration Festival.

- Fantastic atmosphere and the weather held out.

- The Dotterel eventually makes itself available on the Humber.

- Still decent numbers of birds on the move overhead and on Kilnsea wetlands

- Rosefinch continues to show, but a showy Pied Flycatcher in north field steals the show.

Updates to come, but some sightings included the Dotterel shwoing and the Rosefinch still elusive, 2 Pomarine Skua and Long-tailed Skuas offshore, a Caspian Gull on Kilnsea wetlands along with 4 Curlew Sandpiper, a Little Stint, Spotted Redshank, Pale-bellied Brent Goose and a Red-breasted Merganser.

- The first full day of the Spurn Migration Festival started today.

- An incredible 11 Short-eared Owls in the air together!

- Long-tailed Skua lingering all day off the seawatch hut'

- Meadow Pipits aplenty for the Warren counters and a nice flyover Osprey.

- The Young Birder of the Year competition came to a fine and fitting conclusion.

Full updates to come, but some initial sightings from the day saw both the Common Rosefinch and Dotterel still present, a Long-tailed Skua lingering off the seawatch hut and a Black Tern heading north. The highlight of the day was 11 Short-eared Owl up in the air together at Sammy's.

The counters at the Warren had nearly 3000 Meadow Pipit and an Osprey south among a good movement.

Kilnsea wetlands held its usual mix of Little Stints, Curlew Sandpiper, Ruff and Spotted Redshank among the commoner species.

- The 8th Spurn Migration Festival started today (and it's all sold out).

- Spurns 3rd Clifton nonpareil the Moth highlight.

- Common Rosefinch present along showing by the YWT visitor centre with a few Pied Flycatchers, Whinchats and Redstarts.

- Plenty of overhead southerly movement with good numbers of Meadow Pipit and Hirundines.

- An adult and juvenile Sabines Gull briefly over Kilnsea Wetlands the birding highlight.

There were a few bits to move things along for the start of MIGFEST, 2 Sabines Gull (adult and juvenile) that flew over Kilnsea Wetlands before flying out to sea the highlight so far, while a Common Rosefinch showing around the southern end of the Canal and even on the feeders by the YWT visitor centre, a juvenile Long-tailed Skua blogging offshore with 2 Black Terns heading north and a Roseate Tern over the Obs. There were 4 Whinchat along the Canal

Overland a good push of 606 Meadow Pipit, 15 Grey Wagtail, 12 Tree Pipit and 334 House Martin, while a Red Kite flew south.

Some non-bird highlights included Spurns 3rd Clifton Nonpareil and only 3rd and 4th records of Willow Emerald (Damselfly) with 4 on Church Field Pond and 1 in Corner Field.

- Preperation is almost complete and we cant wait to see you all.

- Nightingale, Common Rosefinch and Barred Warbler present along with a few Pied Flycatchers, Whinchats and Redstarts.

- Kilnsea wetlands alive with birds, Spoonbill, 3 Little Stint, 2 Curlew Sandpiper, 11 Ruff and much more!

- Dotterel putting in the odd appearance among the Golden Plover flock.

Hot and sunny with a F2-3 south easterly.  Watches: 0615-0900.

Despite a clearout of migrants there was still a good selection of species present and a few of the good birds remained too with the Nightingale at Chalk bank, a Barred Warbler in North field, 2 Common Rosefinch (Warren and Sammy's) and the juvenile Dotterel again at Sammys with the Golden Plover flock. Other migrant totals were a Short-eared Owl, 1 Hobby, a record 5 Cetti's Warbler, 15 Willow Warbler, 4 Blackcap, a Garden Warbler, 2 Lesser Whitethroat, 27 Whitethroat, a Song Thrush, 5 Pied Flycatcher, 2 Redstart, 7 Whinchat, 9 Wheatear, 11 Yellow Wagtail and a Tree Pipit.

Kilnsea wetland had an nice array of species with 21 Wigeon, 80 Teal, a Spoonbill, 28 Little Egret, 2 Avocet, a Little-ringed Plover, 20 Black-tailed Godwit, 11 Ruff, 2 Curlew Sandpiper, 3 Little Stint, a Common Sandpiper, 1 Green Sandpiper, 700 Redshank and 34 Greenshank.

- Spurns 15th Arctic Warbler remains in the Crown area.

- Nightingale and Rosefinch still present along with Pied Flycatchers, Whinchats and Redstarts.

- Spoonbill on Kilnsea wetlands with 61 Little Egret, Little Stint and lots of Greenshank!

- Large Birds of Prey on the move.

The ARCTIC WARBLER was still present today in the Crown carpark, the Common Rosefinch at the Warren and the Nightingale calling again by Chalk bank hide.

Other sightings included a male Hen Harrier and a Red Kite heading south and a Curlew Sandpiper off the Narrows.

Kilnsea wetlands had a Spoonbill, 61 Little Egret, a Little Stint, 35 Greenshank and a Little Gull.

- Four Spoonbill, 11 Ruff, three Little Stints and Spotted Redshank all showing well on Kilnsea wetlands.

- Good numbers of migrants still present including Pied Flycatchers, Whinchats, Redstarts, Rosefinch and Wood Warbler.

- Spurns 15th Arctic Warbler still present.

- The first push of Meadow Pipits heading south and a good count of 31 Grey Wagtail.

Hot and sunny with a F3 easterly. Watches: 0600-1030.

The ARCTIC WARBLER was still present, sometimes showing well in the Crown area, a Wood Warbler at Yew cottage in Kilnsea, the Rosefinch still at the Warren, the Dotterel sat on the Humber off the Warren, 2 Cetti’s Warbler (Canal and Point), plus a Hobby, 2 Sedge Warbler, 11 Reed Warbler, 3 Blackcap, 4 Garden Warbler, 7 Lesser Whitethroat, 27 Whitethroat, 1100 Starling, 2 Song Thrush, 5 Spotted Flycatcher, 21 Pied Flycatcher, 9 Redstart, 16 Whinchat, 20 Wheatear and 14 Yellow Wagtail.

While much quieter than the previous day a good count of 31 Grey Wagtail was a surprise, while also moving a Marsh Harrier, 15 Common Buzzard, 3 Kestrel, a Ruff, 1 Sand Martin, 46 Swallow, 28 Tree Sparrow, 15 Flava Wagtail, a White Wagtail, 112 Meadow Pipit and 3 Chaffinch.

Kilnsea wetlands as usual had, a good selection of species on offer 4 Spoonbill, 114 Mallard, 11 Pintail, 9 Black-tailed Godwit, 11 Ruff, 3 Little Stint, 3 Common Sandpiper, 3 Green Sandpiper, 683 Redshank, a Spotted Redshank and 35 Greenshank.

Ringing: 1 Swallow, 1 House Martin, 1 Willow Warbler, 1 Whitethroat, 1 Reed Warbler, 1 Robin, 5 Tree Sparrow.

- Curlew Sandpiper, Ruff, Little Stints and Spotted Redshank all showing well on Kilnsea wetlands.

- Good numbers of migrants including Red-backed Shrike, Barred Warbler, Pied Flycatchers, Whinchats, Redstarts and two Rosefinch.

- Decent overland movement of Hirundines.

The period of good birding continues in the run up to Migfest, today producing a fine but elusive ARCTIC WARBLER in the Cliff fam to churchyard area, a juvenile Red-backed Shrike along Beacon lane, the calling Nightingale remained elusive at Chalk bank, the 2 Rosefinch (Kew and Warren), the Dotterel again in flight over Sammy’s point, a Barred Warbler at Sammy’s and 3 Cetti’s Warbler (Canal, 2 Sammy’s), while for common migrants a small decreae with 2 Short-eared Owl, 5 Reed Warbler, 5 Blackcap, 5 Garden Warbler, 8 Lesser Whitethroat, 37 Whitethroat, a Song Thrush, 2 Spotted Flycatcher, 19 Pied Flycatcher, 11 Redstart, 12 Whinchat, 12 Wheatear, 2 Tree Pipit, 4 Grey Wagtail and 31 Yellow Wagtail.

It was another decent morning counting at the Warrennwith a Sparrowhawk, 3 Marsh Harrier, 7 Common Buzzard, 3 Sand Martin, 847 Swallow, 506 House Martin, 20 Flava Wagtail, 7 Grey Wagtail, 12 Meadow Pipit and 89 Linnet, while the sea  had a small movement of Duck, 3 Shelduck, 27 Wigeon, 7 Pintail, 196 Teal, 103 Common Scoter, 17 Red-throated Diver, 14 Gannet, 2 Curlew, a Little Stint, 3 Snipe, a Greenshank, 4 Kittiwake, a Yellow-legged Gull, 134 Common Tern, a Great Skua, 3 Arctic Skua and a nice pale headed juvenile Long-tailed Skua.

Kilnsea wetlands had 25 Wigeon, 10 Pintail, 133 Teal, 66 Little Egret, 12 Black-tailed Godwit, 8 Ruff, 4 Common Sandpiper, 3 Green Sandpiper, 300 Redshank, a Spotted Redshank, 44 Greenshank, 3 Little Stint, 2 Caspian Gull and 109 Mediterranean Gull, while a Curlew Sandpiper was off Sammy’s.

Ringing: 1 Sand Martin, 5 Swallow, 1 Yellow Wagtail, 2 Robin, 2 Reed Warbler, 2 Garden Warbler, 1 Pied Flycatcher, 1 Great Tit, 1 Dunnock, 2 Starling, 1 Linnet, 1 Greenfinch, 2 Goldfinch, 1 Reed Bunting, 1 House Sparrow. (24 of 15sp).

Hot and sunny with a F3 easterly. Watches: 0600-0900, 1730-1900.

It was another great day to be birding in the Spurn area and seemingly a small increase in migrants yet again, the best being a typically elusive, but calling Common Nightingale at Chalk bank, while there were still 2 Rosefinch (Canal and Warren), the Dotterel relocated off Sammy’s point, the Barred Warbler at Easington and now 3 Cetti’s Warbler (Point, Canal, Sammy’s), plus 3 Short-eared Owl, 42 Willow Warbler, 4 Sedge Warbler, 22 Reed Warbler, 2 Blackcap, 2 Garden Warbler, 17 Lesser Whitethroat, 45 Whitethroat,  Song Thrush, 4 Spotted Flycatcher, 47 Pied Flycatcher, 21 Redstart, 26 Whinchat, 15 Wheatear and 5 Yellow Wagtail.

At last there was some overland movement worth mentioning  for the vis miggers bringing a Spoonbill, 11 Common Buzzard, a Hobby, 2 Sand Martin, 912 Swallow, 233 House Martin, 6 Flava Wagtail, a Grey Wagtail, 17 Meadow Pipit, a Tree Pipit and 26 Linnet, while the sea had calmed down somewhat with 2 Shelduck, 59 Teal, 97 Common Scoter, 38 Red-throated Diver, 2  Fulmar, 120 Gannet, a Whimbrel, 3 Kittiwake, 660 Common Tern, 4 Great Skua and 9 Arctic Skua.

Kilnsea wetlands had all the usual Ducks and Waders, along with 2 Ruddy Shelduck which eventually flew to the Humber, 10 Shoveler, 17 Wigeon, 6 Pintail, 105 Teal, a fantastic 69 Little Egret, a Little-ringed Plover, 8 Black-tailed Godwit, 2 Common Sandpiper, 5 Green Sandpiper, 8 Greenshank, 3 Little Stint and 48 Mediterranean Gull, while 3 Curlew Sandpiper off the Warren and 3 Yellow-legged Gull at Chalk bank..

Ringing: 2 Sand Martin, 10 Swallow.

Overcast with light drizzle and a F3-4 north easterly. Watches: 0600-1200, 1730-1900.

Just a week from the start of the first Migfest since 2019, there was a fantastic selection of species on offer across the full range of habitats. Kilnsea wetlands held its usual array of Waders and Gulls, the sea continued to be decent, while there was an increase in migrant numbers, bringing 2 Rosefinch (Sammy’s and Warren), a Dotterel north over the triangle, an increase to 59 Pied Flycatcher, while the 2 Barred Warbler and Cetti’s Warbler remained, plus 5 Short-eared Owl, a Hobby, 44 Willow Warbler, 6 Blackcap, 4 Garden Warbler, 18 Lesser Whitethroat, 39 Whitethroat, a Goldcrest, 2 Song Thrush, a Mistle Thrush, 5 Spotted Flycatcher, 13 Redstart, 15 Whinchat, 13 Wheatear, 4 Tree Pipit, 2 Grey Wagtail, 13 Yellow Wagtail and 27 Reed Bunting.

After dark a Bittern was recorded flying over the Obs garden, just the 26th Spurn record, it was unfourtunatly never seen afterwards and presumably just moved straight through the area. See sound recording.

The sea 12 Shelduck, 9 Wigeon, 157 Teal, a Tufted Duck, 26 Red-throated Diver, 6  Fulmar, 79 Gannet, 11 Kittiwake, a juvenile Sabines Gull south close inshore, 423 Common Tern, a Black Tern, 2 Great Skua, 15 Arctic Skua, 2 Long-tailed Skua and a Puffin.

Kilnsea wetlands, 7 Wigeon, 12 Pintail, 117 Teal, 37 Little Egret, a Little-ringed Plover, 6 Black-tailed Godwit, 6 Ruff, 6 Common Sandpiper, 3 Green Sandpiper, a Little Stint, 4 Spotted Redshank, 22 Greenshank, a Caspian Gull and 34 Mediterranean Gull, while an intersting Lesser Black-backed Gull showed some features of fuscus. Also of note an Avocet was a Chalk bank and a Curlew Sandpiper off the Warren, while 2000 Golden Plover and 406 Ringed Plover were on the Humber.

Ringing: 2 Willow Warbler, 2 Whitethroat, 1 Reed Warbler, 5 Pied Flycatcher, 3 Dunnock, 1 Wren, 3 Blue Tit, 1 Robin, 1 Blackbird, 1 Starling, 1 Common Rosefinch, 12 Goldfinch, 1 Greenfinch.

A cloudy, cool day with drizzle and a  F4 northerly. Watches: 0600-1105, 1740-1900.

Overlall there was little change with the 2 Barred Warbler (Easington and Sykes) still present, the Wood Warbler still at Sammy's and the Cetti’s Warbler at the Point, 23 Willow Warbler, 5 Blackcap, 5 Garden Warbler, 11 Lesser Whitethroat, 25 Whitethroat, a Song Thrush, 2 Spotted Flycatcher, 48 Pied Flycatcher, 6 Redstart, 11 Whinchat, 10 Wheatear, a Tree Pipit and 21 Yellow Wagtail.

The sea was quieter than the previous day, but still some bits of interest, 10 Teal, a Common Scoter, 169 Common Scoter, 7 Red-throated Diver, 13 Fulmar including a 'blue phase' bird, a Sooty Shearwater, 95 Gannet, 3 Little Gull, 686 Common Tern, a Black Tern, 3 Great Skua, 8 Arctic Skua and 3 Long-tailed Skua.

Kilnsea wetlands had 15 Wigeon, 4 Pintail, 116 Teal, 3 Spoonbill, 22 Little Egret, 2 Little-ringed Plover, 12 Black-tailed Godwit, 2 Common Sandpiper, 3 Green Sandpiper, 3 Little Stint, a Spotted Redshank and 14 Greenshank, while 5 Curlew Sandpiper were at Sammy’s and a Great White Egret over Humberside lane.

Ringing: 2 Willow Warbler, 4 Whitethroat, 2 Pied Flycatcher, 1 Wren, 1 Robin, 1 Blackbird, 1 Starling.

A cloudy day with a F4 north easterly. Watches: 0600-0845, 1300-1530, 1720-2015.

There were 2 Barred Warbler again today, singles in the Obs garden and Easington, the Wood Warbler was still at Sammy’s, 27 Willow Warbler, 4 Blackcap, 4 Garden Warbler, 7 Lesser Whitethroat, 15 Whitethroat, 2 Song Thrush, 4 Spotted Flycatcher, an increase to 42 Pied Flycatcher, 5 Redstart, 3 Whinchat, 6 Wheatear, 3 Tree Pipit and 8 Yellow Wagtail.

The sea while not receiving total coverage had good totals of Skuas with 25 Teal, 73 Common Scoter, 16 Red-throated Diver, a Storm Petrel, 27 Fulmar, 3 Sooty Shearwater, 65 Gannet, a Purple Sandpiper, 7 Little Gull, 46 Kittiwake, 1204 Common Tern, 4 Great Skua, a Pomarine Skua, 36 Arctic Skua, 10 Long-tailed Skua and a Puffin.

No news from Kilnsea wetlands, but totals from the Humber, 511 Shelduck, 10 Pintail, 101 Teal, 20 Little Egret, 1100 Golden Plover, 2 Black-tailed Godwit, 4 Curlew Sandpiper, a Common Sandpiper, 1 Little Stint, 177 Redshank and 31 Mediterranean Gull.

Ringing: 2 Willow Warbler, 1 Whitethroat, 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 2 Reed Warbler, 2 Pied Flycatcher, 1 Great Tit, 1 Blue Tit, 1 Wren, 1 Robin, 6 Tree Sparrow.

A grey day with drizzle a F4 northerly. Watches: 0615-1245.

There was a noticeable increase in grounded migrants, the highlight a Wryneck near Rose cottage along with 2 Barred Warbler remaining (Rose cottage area and Easington), 37 Willow Warbler, 8 Blackcap, 2 Garden Warbler, 12 Lesser Whitethroat, 29 Whitethroat, 9 Spotted Flycatcher, 34 Pied Flycatcher, 7 Redstart, a Whinchat, 6 Wheatear, 2 Tree Pipit and 9 Yellow Wagtail.

Another day of no numbers, but some decent birds again over the sea, 5 Pintail, 24 Teal, 40 Common Scoter, 8 Red-throated Diver, a Storm Petrel, 13 Fulmar, 2 Sooty Shearwater, 3 Manx Shearwater, 142 Gannet, a Shag, 14 Little Gull, 60 Kittiwake, 1668 Common Tern, 6 Great Skua, a Pomarine Skua, 31 Arctic Skua, 5 Long-tailed Skua and a Puffin.

There were increases in Wildfowl on Kilnsea wetlands, 13 Wigeon, 10 Pintail, 101 Teal, 20 Little Egret and good numbers of Waders yet again, 5 Black-tailed Godwit, 12 Ruff, a Common Sandpiper, 2 Little Stint, 150 Redshank, a Spotted Redshank, 11 Greenshank and 31 Mediterranean Gull.

Ringing: 1 Willow Warbler, 1 Whitethroat, 3 Pied Flycatcher, 1 Spotted Flycatcher.
