A wild day with sunny spells and a cold F5-6 WNW wind.
Watches: 0800-1115.
A great record for the time of year came in the form of a Red Kite which flew south while the Rose-coloured starling remained in Easington and the Green-winged Teal still bobbing around on Kilnsea wetlands.
A trickle of birds over the sea, 1 Teal, 37 Red-throated Diver, 1 Common Scoter, 1 Shag, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 4 Auk sp and 4 Guillemot.
Other bits mainly in the Kilnsea wetlands area were 630 Brent Geese plus 2 Pale-bellied Brent, 460 Wigeon, 70 Teal, 5 Shoveler, 6 Goldeneye, a Peregrine in the area, 70 Lapwing, 123 Curlew, 90 Black-tailed Godwit while 4 Skylark were still on Kilnsea wetlands.

Mostly sunny and mild with a F1-3 W wind.
Migration Watches: 0800-1100.
The drake Green-winged Teal remained on Kilnsea wetlands while the Easington Rose-coloured Starling still showing on and off.
Quiet over the sea with 21 Wigeon, 15 Teal, 4 Common Scoter, 48 Red-throated Diver, 3 Gannet, 7 Cormorant, 4 Auk sp and 3 Guillemot.
Other sightings were 2 Pink-footed Geese and 32 Greylag Geese on well field, 600 Brent Geese plus 3 Pale-bellied Brent, 315 Wigeon, 114 Teal, 6 Shoveler, 1 Tufted Duck, 7 Goldeneye on Kilnsea wetlands, 3 Little Egret, 55 Black-tailed Godwit, 3 Snipe Clubleys, Greenshank Beacon ponds, 2 Stonechat at the borrow pit, 20 Linnet at Kilnsea wetlands and the male Ring Ouzel at Sammys.

Frequent heavy showers and lengthy spells of rain with a cold F2-3 W wind.
Watches: 0800-1115.
No sign of the Glossy Ibis, but the male Green-winged Teal remained on Kilnsea Wetlands.
Another day with a trickle of birds over the sea, 60 Teal, 1 Pintail, 2 Shoveler, 75 Red-throated Diver, 1 Gannet, 5 Little Gull, 3 Auk sp and 3 Guillemot.
Other bits mainly in the Kilnsea wetlands area were 91 Teal, 5 Shoveler, 6 Goldeneye, a Merlin in the area, 120 Lapwing, 36 Black-tailed Godwit while 5 Skylark were on Kilnsea wetlands.

Bright, sunny and mild with a F1-3 SW wind.
Migration Watches: 0800-1115.
Late afternoon our 8th GLOSSY IBIS dropped into Kilnsea Wetlands where the Green-winged Teal was still present while the Ring Ouzel remained at Sammys.
Trickle of birds over the sea with 110 Pink-footed Geese, 36 Teal, 150 Red-throated Diver, 1 Great Northern Diver, 1 Shag, Gannet, 1 Auk sp and 4 Guillemot.
Other sightings were 42 Shelduck on the Humber, 365 Wigeon, 119 Teal, 5 Shoveler, 1 Tufted Duck, 6 Goldeneye on Kilnsea wetlands, 2 stonechat at the borrow pit and 3 Snow Bunting..

Frequent showers and heavy rain with a F3-5 SW wind
Watches : 0815-1115.
A fantastic total for Teal moving south today but otherwise it was business as usual with totals of 40 Pink footed Geese, 151 Teal, 5 Common Scoter, 103 Red throated Diver, 1 Shag, Purple Sandpiper, 3 Auk sp, 1 Razorbill and 3 Guillemot.
Other decent sightings were the 500 Wigeon, 68 Teal, 7 Shoveler, 1 Tufted Duck, 7 Goldeneye, 2 Little Egret all on Kilnsea Wetlands, the male Ring Ouzel at Sammys and a Jackdaw which are more normally seen from March on passage.

Cold, bright and sunny with a F1-2 SE wind.
Watches: 0815-1030.
The Easington Rose-coloured Starling was still present as was the Sammys Ring Ouzel.
The sea was back to its usual quiet self species wise, but still a decent number of Divers about, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 308 Red throated Diver, 1 Great Northern Diver, 1 Gannet, 4 Auk sp and 1 Guillemot.
Other sightings were 522 Brent Geese, 308 Wigeon, 106 Teal, 9 Shoveler, 1 Tufted Duck, 7 Goldeneye, 215 Lapwing, 164 Curlew, 2 Stonechat, 3 Fieldfare and 2 Song Thrush.

Frequent showers and heavy rain with a F3-5 SW wind

Over the sea were 10 Teal, 6 Common Scoter, 204 Red throated Diver, 2 Gannet, 2 Cormorant 2 Kittiwake, 70 Auk sp, 7 Razorbill and 46 Guillemot.
Other decent sightings were 587 Brent Geese plus 1 Pale bellied Brent, 164 Wigeon, the male Green winged Teal on Kilnsea Wetlands, 14 Little Grebe, 153 Curlew Holderness field where 3 Stonechat were along the fence line.

Cloudy to start brightening up later with a F2-3 W wind.
Watches: 0800-1145.
All the action was over the sea with 1 Wigeon, 1 Teal, 1 Red breasted Merganser, 1 Fulmar, 52 Red throated Diver, 12 Gannet, Purple Sandpiper, 1 Bonxie, 1 Kittiwake, 85 Auk sp, 2 Razorbill and 25 Guillemot.
The only other bird of note was a Snow Bunting by the Borrow pit.

Dull with low cloud and rain brightened later with a F2 S wind
Watches : 0745-0945.
Crazily different day to yesterday with little seen over the sea and only totals of 1 Gannet, 7 Auk sp, 1 Razorbill and 8 Guillemot.
Other decent sightings were the Green-winged Teal, 380 Wigeon, 60 Teal, 2 Shoveler, 1 Pochard, 1 Tufted Duck, 7 Goldeneye all on Kilnsea Wetlands and a Buzzard hanging about in the area.

A mild day, bright and sunny with a F2 W wind.
Watches: 0800-1230.
A big movement of Divers over the sea was maybe the highlight of the day while the 4 White fronted Geese remained on Holderness field with a Barnacle Goose for company.
Over the sea 1 Goldeneye, 2 Eider, 14 Common Scoter, 1 Great Crested Grebe, an impressive 601 Red throated Diver, 1 Great Northern Diver, 1 Bonxie, 9 Kittiwake, 172 Auk sp and 39 Guillemot.
Other sightings were Peregrine, 80 Black tailed Godwit on the Humber, 7 Long tailed Tit at the Obs, 2 Bullfinch still on Beacon lane and 2 Snow Bunting at Easington lagoon.

A frosty, bright start with snow flurries in the afternoon and a F2 W wind.
Migration Watches: 0755-0930.
A nice adult Glaucous Gull flew south, but otherwise, the sea was quiet again with 2 Pintail, 7 Common Scoter, 143 Red-throated Diver, 1 Cormorant, 1 Kittiwake, 3 Auk sp and 4 Guillemot.
Other birds of note were the male Ring Ouzel still at Sammys with 2 Common Buzzard in the same area, 150 Black-tailed Godwit on the Humber, 1 Kingfisher, 20 Fieldfare and 17 Long-tailed Tit.

A cold murky start, brightening up later with a F2-3 SW wind.
Migration Watches: 0800-1230.
The male Ring Ouzel is still at Sammys generally in the 1st paddock and the 4 White-fronted Geesehad returned to Easington straight after a fly about yesterday, along with a Barnacle Goose.
Low numbers, but some interesting species over the sea 3 Wigeon, 17 Teal, 1 Pochard, 1 Tufted Duck, 1 Long-tailed Duck, 4 Common Scoter, 389 Red-throated Diver, 1 Black-throated Diver, 9 Auk sp and 8 Guillemot.
Other sightings included 52 Greylag Geese, 290 Wigeon, 109 Teal, 48 Mallard, 2 Shoveler, 1 Tufted Duck, 1 Pochard, 6 Goldeneye, 1 Water Rail, a mobile Marsh Harrier, 236 Black-tailed Godwit, the usual Tawny Owl in the churchyard, 2 Stonechat, 15 Long-tailed Tit and 2 Bullfinch plus the usual Ring-necked Parakeet in Easington.

A cold icy start gave way to a bright sunny day and a F2-3 W wind.
Migration Watches: 0800-1115.
The sea was very quiet again with 23 Common Scoter, 156 Red-throated Diver, 7 Cormorant and 1 Shag, but the 4 White-fronted Geese from Holderness field flew south.
Other bits of interest were 550 Brent Geese, 45 Greylag Geese, 1 Barnacle Geese, 460 Wigeon, 71 Teal, 7 Shoveler, 1 Tufted Duck, 1 Pochard, 6 Goldeneye, 3 Little Egret, male Marsh Harrier, a Woodcock on Beacon lane, 198 Black tailed Godwit on long bank, 2 Stonechat, 4 Fieldfare in/off with 31 in the area, 14 Long-tailed Godwit and 1 Snow Bunting.by the borrow pit.

Low cloud and rain with a F2 S-W wind.
Watches: 0815-1100.
The Goose arrival continued today with a Tundra Bean Goose in well field, 29 White fronted Geese(with 8 in/off, 20 flew south, 1 long bank) and 4 Barnacle Geese.
Also on the move were 13 Wigeon, 29 Teal, 2 Pintail, 1 Mallard, 2 Common Scoter, 84 Red throated Diver, 24 Lapwing in/off, 1 Arctic Skua, 11 Auk sp and 3 Guillemot seen.
Other sightings today were 400 Brent Geese, 39 Greylag Geese, 212 Lapwing, 208 Black tailed Godwit, 235 Redshank with a Kingfisher at sammys and 2 Stonechat by the boatyard.

A dull misty start brightened up later with a F1-2 SE wind.
Watches : 0815-1130.
A fantastic movement of 76 White fronted Geese flew south today, which also had 1 Barnacle Gooseand 2 Brent Geese.
Also on the move were 10 Wigeon, 24 Teal, 2 Pintail, 2 Shoveler, 2 Eider, 2 Great Northern Diver, 87 Red throated Diver, 1 Black throated Diver and 5 Guillemot.
Other decent sightings included131 Shelduck, 1 Water Rail, Peregrine at the point, 205 Black tailed Godwit and 6000 Knot on the Humber, 2 Stonechat at sammys where the male Ring Ouzel remained with 4 Fieldfare.

In Easington the Rose-coloured Starling remains while nearby the male Ring Ouzel is still at Sammys.
The small numbers of wildfowl continue over the sea 1 Brent Goose, 5 Wigeon, 16 Teal, 1 Common Scoter, male Goosander, 2 Goldeneye, 31 Red-throated Diver, 2 Black-throated Diver, 1 Cormorant, 2 Auk sp and 3 Guillemot.
Other sightings included the usual Tawny Owl at the Obs and the resident Common Buzzard at Sammys.

Early fog cleared with a F2 ESE wind.
Watches: 0900-1200.
Only our 2nd ever winter record of Ring Ouzel appeared at Sammys today, the previous record was of a bird feeding on the strand line at the point on the 21st-27th January 2001.
A nice male Hen Harrier was floating about at Sammys, where a Short-eared Owl was also present.
On the move were 21 Wigeon, 2 Pintail, an impressive 22 Tufted Duck, 4 Eider, 1 Common Scoter, 212 Red throated Diver, 1 Great crested Grebe, 1 Gannet, 1 Purple Sandpiper and 5 Guillemot.
Other sightings today were 600 Brent Geese, 350 Oystercatcher, 3000 Knot, Lesser black backed Gull, Kingfisher at sammys, 1 Stonechat at Wire dump and male Bullfinch on Beacon Lane.

A nice mix of Wildfowl continue to be present in the Kilnsea Wetlands area with totals of 19 Mute Swan, 3 Whooper Swan, 19 Greylag Geese, 400 Brent Geese, 370 Wigeon, 71 Teal, 20 Mallard, 9 Shoveler, 1 Pochard, 1 Tufted Duck and 7 Goldeneye.
On the move over the sea were 10 Wigeon, 1 Eider, 6 Common Scoter, 15 Red throated Diver, 1 Black throated Diver, 1 Great Crested Grebe and 3 Guillemot.

A misty start becoming thick fog with a F1 ESE-S wind

The Rose coloured Starling maintained its presence in Easington, while a Mealy Redpoll appeared in the crown car park.
On the move over the sea were 20 Teal, 4 Common Scoter, 9 Red throated Diver, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 1 Gannet, 2 Auk sp, 1 Razorbill and 3 Guillemot.
Other decent sightings included 7 Grey Partridge, 1 Common Buzzard, 105 Fieldfare and 5 Snow Bunting by Easington boat yard.

Not much over the sea with only 2 Goldeneye, 12 Eider, 14 Common Scoter, 8 Fulmar, 23 Red throated Diver, 15 Kittiwake and 2 Guillemot for the effort.
Other sightings mainly at Kilnsea Wetlands, 300 Wigeon, 75 Teal, 6 Shoveler, 1 Tufted Duck, 1 Pochard and 7 Goldeneye with 40 Fieldfare in North field and 1 Stonechat at the Warren.

Bright and sunny with a cool F1-2 E wind.
Migration Watches: 0745-1000.
The day of the Michael Clegg memorial bird race saw 2 teams from the area compete for the coveted crown, while the Obs was much depleted as many left for a birding trip to northern India today.
The bird race threw up a few surprises with a very unseasonal northbound Sooty Shearwater a great find, along with the 1st winter Rose-coloured Starling and Mealy Redpoll both in the usual spots.
Other bonus species for the bird race included 2 Water Rail along the canal, 2 Woodcock, 4 Jack Snipe, Greenshank on Beacon ponds, Little Owl, the usual Tawny Owl in the crown, Meadow Pipit on Clubley’s, Blackcap on Green lane and a Chiffchaff at the Obs.
Over the sea afew more decent species were seen despite being quiet with 14 Eider, 14 Common Scoter, 10 Fulmar, 44 Red-throated Diver, 1 Gannet, 2 Kittiwake and 3 Guillemot.
Other sightings included 35 Greylag Geese, 290 Wigeon, 6 Shoveler, 2 Tufted Duck, 1 Pochard, 2 Coot on canal scrape, 10 Snipe, 3 Great-spotted Woodpecker in Easington, 1 Stonechat, 90 Fieldfare and 1 Redwing.

Early rain soon cleared with sunny spells and a cool F3-4 NE wind.
Watches: 0915-1100.
Both the Rose coloured Starling and the Waxwing remained in Easington though the latter inexplicably flew into a window in the afternoon killing itself.
The sea had a nice mix of species with 20 Barnacle Geese, 3 Teal, 110 Common Scoter, 60 Red throated Diver, 14 Fulmar plus a nice 'Blue' Fulmar, 20 Kittiwake, 9 Auk sp and 22 Guillemot seen.
Other sightings today were 50 Teal, 1 Pochard, 2 Tufted Duck, 7 Goldeneye, 2 Water Rail, 200 Lapwing, 16 Black tailed Godwit, 220 Fieldfare, 7 Redwing and a rather nice Mealy Redpoll in the crown carpark

Rain and drizzle from late morning to early evening with a F2-4 W wind.
Watches :
The 3rd GREEN-WINGED TEAL for Spurn was found this morning on Kilnsea wetlands, transferring to the sea for the rest of the day.
In Easington both the 1st winter Rose-coloured Starling and Waxwing were both still present in Easington, the latter flying south over the Obs in the afternoon.
Other bits of interest came in the form of 3 Pale bellied Brent Geese, 80 Pink footed Geese north-west, 1 Pochard, 1 Tufted Duck, 7 Goldeneye, 1 Common Buzzard, 54 Lapwing, Jack Snipe on clubleys, Merlin at Beacon Ponds, 1 Stonechat, 2 Bullfinch and a Snow Bunting by Easington boat yard.

Overcast all day with occasional showers and a F4-7 SW-W wind.
Migration Watches: 0920-1015.
A welcome addition to the early yearlist came in the form of a rather dapper Waxwing on Westfield close in Easington today, in what has so far been a poor winter for them nationally. Nearby the Rose-coloured Starling is still eeking out a living by Dimlington bungalows.
The only bits over the of note over were 100 Pink-footed Geese and 1 Great Crested Grebe while overland 4 Skylark and 1 Rock Pipit went south and 183 Fieldfare went northwest.
Other sightings and good counts included 20 Mute Swan, 9 Shoveler, 25 Mallard, 50 Teal, 1 Pochard, 3 Tufted Duck, 6 Goldeneye, 220 Lapwing, 70 Black-tailed Godwit, 120 Fieldfare, 4 Redwing, 2 Stonechat and 1 Bullfinch.

Difficult in the very windy conditions and overall it was a day for doing other jobs!

The Rose-coloured Starling made it onto many 2018 yearlists with its continued presence at Dimlington bungalows. Please respect the residents privacy if looking for this bird.
Decent numbers of Thrushes remain, mainly in the Easington area with 50 Blackbird, 45 Fieldfare, 10 Redwing, 6 Song Thrush and 1 Mistle Thrush.
The sea only continues its generally quiet theme into the new year and only produced 1 Red-breasted Merganser, 21 Red-throated Diver, 1 Gannet, 40 Golden Plover and 1 Guillemot.
Other sightings mainly at Kilnsea wetlands were 300 Brent Geese with 3 Pale-bellied Brent, 2 Whooper Swan, 21 Mute Swan, 13 Shoveler, 260 Wigeon, 67 Teal, 1 Pochard, 2 Tufted Duck, 6 Goldeneye, 1 Marsh Harrier, 1 Common Buzzard, 120 Black-tailed Godwit on Long bank, 1 Jack Snipe clubleys, 1 Greenshank beacon ponds, 1 Stonechat, 1 Chifchaff Easington sewage farm, 2 Coal Tit in Easington, 22 Long tailed Tit, 4 Bullfinch still in the area and 1 Snow Bunting sandy beaches.
