PLEASE STAY WELL AWAY from the fenced area of beach which is clearly signposted, and respect the wardens on duty. Up to 60 birds are present in the colony and can be viewed well from the flood bank.

A chilly, grey, wet day with a F4 north easterly.  Watches: 0540-0810.

Most of the action continued to be over the sea, with 17 Shelduck, 10 Teal, 85 Common Scoter, a Fulmar, 1 Manx Shearwater, 34 Gannet, 2 Curlew in/off, a Great Skua, 3 Guillemot and 4 Razorbill.

Elsewhere there was a fine total of 67 Little Gull on Kilnsea wetlands, 60 Little Tern nearby on Beacon ponds and a Grasshopper Warbler singing in Easington.

Ringing: 1 House Sparrow.

A better day with warm sunny spells despite the F4  north easterly.  Watches: 0500-1105.

The second day in a row, saw a surpise, with our latest ever spring Icterine Warbler singing in the garden at Chapel cottage, near the Obs, giving fleeting views. The Spoonbill was again on KIlnsea wetlands, along with a good total of 18 Little Gull, but a clear out of the Wildfowl, though the Pochard remains.

Ringing: 6 Ringed Plover, 1 Wood Pigeon, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 1 Robin.

Overcast with a cool F4 north easterly.  Watches: 0540-1010.

A vocal Nightjar was a surprise visitor to the garden at Kew,, in the evening, while the immature Spoonbill remained at Kilnsea wetlands. Other bits of note here included an increase in Wildfowl, with 14 Gadwall, 14 Wigeon, 4 Teal and a Pochard.

There was some light movement again over the sea with 41 Teal, an Eider, 440 Common Scoter, 38 Gannet, 2 Cormorant, 4 Kittiwake, 5 Guillmeot, 9 Razorbill, 3 Puffin and 29 Large Auk sp.

Ringing: 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 2 Wren, 5 Swallow.

Cool, with light rain to start and a F4 north easterly.  Watches: 0615-1130.

There were 2 Spoonbill on Kilnsea wetlands, the juvenile being joined by a colour ringed adult, the same area also having a Brent Goose, 11 Gadwall, 47 Mallard, 4 Teal, a Pochard, 5 Grey Heron. 4 Little Egret, 3 Little Gull, 2 Mediterranean Gull, with 86 Little Tern on Beacon ponds.

Moving over the sea were 12 Teal, 321 Common Scoter, a Fulmar, 3 Manx Shearwater, a Great Crested Grebe, 1 Grey Heron. 34 Gannet, a Cormrorant, 2 Kittiwake, 7 Little Gull, a Mediterranean Gull, 15 Sandwich Tern, 8 Arctic Tern, 24 Guillemot, 41 Razorbill and 6 Puffin.

Ringing: 3 Blackbird, 1 Blackcap, 1 Dunnock, 2 Goldfinch, 1 Song Thrush, 2 Starling, 1 Wren.

Overcast with sunny spells and a F3 north easterly. Watches: 0550-1005.

Bits of interest from the day included a Red Kite, which headed off north west and the immature Spoonbill on Kilnsea wetlands, where 2 broods of Gadwall were evident. The wetlands also held a Brent Goose, 1 Wigeon. a Tufted Duck, 5 Little Egret, a Marsh Harrier, 3 Little Gull, a Mediterranean Gull and 77 Little Tern around Beacon ponds.

Moving over the sea were 103 Common Scoter, 8 Fulmar, 23 Manx Shearwater, 85 Gannet, a Shag, 1 Whimbrel, a Curlew, 7 Kittiwake, 9 Sandwich Tern, 19 Guillemot, 27 Razorbill, 10 Puffin and 22 Large Auk sp.

Ringing: 4 Blackbird, 2 Dunnock, 3 Greenfinch, 1 Goldfinch, 18 House Sparrow, 2 Starling, 1 Whitethroat, 1 Wren.

Rain on and of all day with a F3 north easterly.  Watches: 0550-0915.

A day where little was happening overall, but a nice breeding plumage Spotted Redshank circled the Ponds, with the Spoonbill nearby on Kilnsea wetlands still. This area also held 10 Grey Heron, 4 Little Egret, 3 Tufted Duck, 2 Little Gull, 2 Mediterranean Gull and 14 Sandwich Tern, with a Hobby south.

A sunny start, gave way to drizzle on and off all day with a F3 south westerly.  Watches: 0540-1000.

The Rose-coloured Starling was again in Kilnsea in the morning and the Spoonbill still on Kilnsea wetlands, where there were also 4 Tufted Duck, 7 Little Egret, a Marsh Harrier, 1 Greenshank, 3 Little Gull, a Mediterranean Gull and 1 Short-eared Owl.

There was more movement involving 2 Canada Geese, 42 Common Scoter, 12 Gannet, 50 Curlew, 8 Black-tailed Godwit, 12 Black;headed Gull, 26 Herring Gull, 10 Sandwich Tern, 29 Swift, 21 Sand Martin, 6 Swallow and a House Martin.

Ringing: 1 Barn Owl, 3 Reed Warbler, 1 Sedge Warbler, 2 Whitethroat, 1 Blackcap, 2 Wren, 1 Dunnock.

A warm sunny day with a F3 south easterly.  Watches: 0530-0900.

There was not much change overall and little on the move, a Rose-coloured Starling at Driftwood appears to be a new bird, being a rather dull 2cy female. An immature Spoonbill (last seen on the 19th) was on KIlnsea wetlands with returning Common Sandpiper and Green Sandpiper in the same area, while a Willow Warbler at the Warren, was unusual for the time of year. 

Other birds of note were a Brent Goose, 11 Little Egret, 4 Avocet, a Whimbrel, 1 Greenshank, 2 Little Gull and a Short-eared Owl in the Beacon ponds/kilnsea wetlands area, with a Stonechat nearby and 19 Golden Plover on the Humber, while another Short-eared Owl was at chalk bank.

Ringing: 5 Whitethroat, 6 Dunnock, 4 Tree Sparrow, 1 Linnet.

A cool start gave way to a sunny warm day with a F4 northerly - F2 westerly.  Watches: 0550-1115.

There were a few bits of interest from the day, a nice male Grey-headed Wagtail at the Riverside, a wandering Rose-coloured Starling from Easington to Kilnsea, a 3cy Caspian Gull on Kilnsea wetlands and a Velvet Scoter over the sea. 

The sea had a bit of interest with an Eider, 26 Common Scoter, a Fulmar, 7 Manx Shearwater, 177 Gannet, 4 Sandwich Tern, an Arctic Skua, 3 Guillemot, 10 Razorbill, 2 Puffin and 118 Auk sp.

Ringing: 3 Tree Sparrow, 1 Blue Tit.

A grey day with a chilly F4 north easterly.  Watches: 0600-1000.

There was at least one Rose-coloured Starling in Easington and the Cetti's Warbler still at the Point, but otherwise there was not much happening.

The best of any movement saw 138 Common Scoter, a Fulmar, 54 Gannet, 5 Curlew in/off and 15 Guillemot, while Kilnsea wetlands had a good coiunt of 281 Black-headed Gull along with a Brent Goose, 2 Tufted Duck, 6 Little Egret and a Cuckoo.

Ringing: 1 Dunnock, 1 Chaffinch, 1 Bullfinch.

A cool cloudy start, warming becoming muggy with a F3 north easterly,  Watches: 0540-1020.

The day saw 2 Rose-coloured Starling recorded in gardens in Easington, but there was no sign of the Spoonbill, which from photos was seen in Teeside this morning. The dark phase Arctic Skua was again frequenting Kilnsea wetlands and a Short-eared Owl was giving good views in the triangle. 

 There were decent numbers of Waders on the Humber with 4 Lapwing, 12 Golden Plover, 44 Grey Plover, 2 Redshank and a Greenshank, while Kilnsea wetlands had a Brent Goose, 89 Black-headed Gull, 2 Little Gull and a Common Tern.

Ringing: 1 Blackcap, 5 Swallow.

Rain on and off all day with sunny spells and a F3  northerly. Watches: 0600-1100.

A Rose-coloured Starling in Easington, is maybe the bird last seen on Tuesday, the Spoonbill remained on Kilnsea wetlands and likewise for the Cetti's Warbler at the Point. An Arctic Skua lingered in the Kilnsea wetlands area giving very good views and 2 Crossbill were around Kilnsea.

The Kilnsea wetlands/Beacon ponds area held, 18 Teal, a Tufted Duck, 6 Little Egret, a Greenshank, 1 Kittiwake, 4 Little Gull, 42 Black-headed Gull, 6 Common Tern and 2 Short-eared Owl with 160 Common Scoter just offshore here.

There was a bit of movement over the sea the best being 11 Teal, 2 Tufted Duck, 2 Eider, 76 Common Scoter, 5 Fulmar and 127 Gannet.

Ringing: 3 Kestrel, 1 Great Tit, 2 Lesser Whitethroat.

A poor day with rain from mid morning and an increasing F2-4 northerly. Watches: 0630-1000.

The Spoonbill was in its usual place on Kilnsea wetlands along with 39 Mallard, 4 Teal, a Tufted Duck and 7 Little Egret.

The sea had a bit more action with 3 Eider, 75 Common Scoter, a Red-throated Diver, 3 Fulmar, 7 Manx Shearwater, 82 Gannet, 22 Kittiwake, 10 Sandwich Tern, a Common Tern, 19 Guillemot, 6 Razorbill, 31 Puffin and 46 Large Auk sp.

Ringing: 1 Common Buzzard, 3 Marsh Harrier.

Rain most of the morning brightening up in the afternoon with a F3 north westerly.  Watches: 0545-1015, 1330-1440.

A quiet day overall, the Spoonbill still on Kilnsea wetlands along with a locally uncommon Pochard, plus 9 Gadawll, 11 Teal, a Tufted Duck and 4 Little Grebe.

The sea had a bit of movement, with 468 Common Scoter, 3 Teal, 3 Fulmar, 9 Manx Shearwater, 43 Gannet, 5 Kittiwake, 6 Sandwich Tern, 13 Guillemot, 4 Puffin, 3 Razorbill and 2 Arctic Tern,.

Ringing: 1 Blue Tit, 1 Dunnock.

A warm muggy day with a light northwesterly.  Watches: 0600-0930.

A 2cy/1s male Rosefinch was singing in Sykes Field this morning, later flying towards Kew. (see recording embeded here for the distincive 'pleased to meet you' simplistic song). Otherwise the day was quiet with juist a Barnacle Goose, the Spoonbill, a Tufted Duck and 1 Greenshank on Kilnsea wetlands, 5 Little Egret, 2 Swift hanging around the Obs Swift boxes and 520 Starling in the area. 

Over the sea 6 Common Scoter, 17 Gannet, 19 Guillemot and 2 Puffin were the best.

The Swallowtail Butterfly was again at Beacon ponds.

Ringing: 3 Chiffchaff, 1 Blue Tit, 1 Blackbird.

A warm muggy day, becoming overcast with a light north easterly.  Watches: 0520-1000, 1330-1500.

Today there were maybe, 3 or 4 Rose-coloured Starling in the area, the picture is still at bit fuzzy with what is going on and difficult to keep up what is happening. The day saw one fly south with Starlings and apparently did not return, while another two with a Starling flock turned back at the Warren, staying in the triangle area, while one remained ion feeders in Easington. Elsewhere the Spoonbill remained on Kilnsea wetlands, along with 5 TeaL, a Wigeon, 1 Tufted Duck, 2 Greenshank, 3 (2cy) Mediterranean Gull and 2 Little Gull, with both Arctic Tern and Common Tern on nearby Beacon ponds.

Some light movement over both land and sea saw 72 Common Scoter, a Fulmar, 1 Red-throated Diver, 9 Man Shearwater, 4 Puffin, a Hobby, 1 Green Sanndpiper,a Little-ringed Plover,  338 Swift, 7 Sand Martin, 9 Swallow and 9 House Martin.

Ringing: 2 Dunnock.

A warm sunny start clouding over later with a light south westerly.  Watches: 0540-0915.

Maybe the sightings of the day was a SWALLOWTAIL BUTTERFLY at Beacon ponds, with at least one previous record from along the canal. A late female Red-backed Shrike was in the triangle, while the day saw 2 Rose-coloured Starling recorded with one remaining in Easington, another flew south at the Warren and the Spoonbill was again on Kilnsea wetlands. 

The WEBS count typically produced low numbers of Waders with a Golden Plover, 38 Dunlin, 59 Ringed Plover, 258 Oystercatcher, 6 Curlew, a Sanderling, 1 Redshank, a Greenshank, 1 Turnstone and a juvenile Little-ringed Plover, while aslo counted were a Brent Goose, 20 Mute Swan, 65 Mallard, 6 Gadwall, 7 Teal, 2 Wigeon, a Tufted Duck, 3 Grey Heron, 6 Little Egret, 8 Mediterranean Gull and a Little Grebe.

Other bits of note were 6 Puffin on the Humber, a 2cy Arctic Tern on Beacon ponds and a Hobby blogging.

Ringing: 1 Whitethroat, 1 Blackcap.

A cloudy start soon brightened with a light westerly.  Watches: 0545-0900.

There was no sign of any Rose-coloured Starling despite being looked for, and the day returned to prety much what you expect at this time of year, though the 2cy Glaucous Gull and Spoonbill were again at Kilnsea wetlands and the Cetti's Warbler re-surfaced again at the Point.

The best of the rest were a Little Gull on Beacon ponds, 4 Golden Plover on the Humber, a Puffin flying about on the Humber, the Little Owl at Kilnsea wetlands, 3 Cuckoo in the area and 2 Bullfinch in church field.

Ringing: 1 Blackbird, 2 Greenfinch.

Sunny spells and a f3-5 south westerly.  Watches: 0530-1000, 1245-1515, 1800-2000.

There was maybe 3 ROSE-COLOURED STARLING again in the area, with 2 remaining together in Easington, with another south over Clubley's. The Spoonbill remained on Kilnsea wetlands and 5 Crossbill flew northwest over Church field. 

In addition to the Starling and Crossbills, there wasn't a lot on the move the best being 4 Lapwing, a Little-ringed Plover, 304 Swift, 14 Swallow, 8 House Martin and a Corn Bunting.

Other bits of note mainly around Kilnsea wetlands were 14 Gadwall, a Teal, 2 Wigeon, a Tufted Duck, a Mediterranean Gull, the first juvenile Black-headed Gull, an Arctic Tern, 3 Cuckoo, a Little Owl, 1 Short-eared Owl and a Hobby around the area.

A bright start soon gave way to cloud with a light south westerly.  Warches: 0520-1000, 1200-1740.

It was an intriguing day with either 2 or 3 ROSE-COLOURED STARLING recorded. One was seen flying south at the Warren, then flying back north, touring Kilnsea. Later in the day various birders gardens recorded singles, then 2 together at Hillrise repeated again around the village. In the meantime a bird was seen at Westmere farm in Kilnsea, but only two were seen at once. The day also saw another push of 734 Swift, while also recorded were 3 Avocet, a Hobby, 43 Swallow, 2 Sand Martin, 16 House Martin and a Grey Wagtail, while the sea had a Red-breasted Merganser, 40 Black-headed Gull, 11 Sandwich Tern and 3 Arctic Tern.

The KIlnsea wetlands area held a Spoonbill, 1 Brent Goose, a Teal, 2 Wigeon, 7 Gadwall, 48 Mallard, 3 Tufted Duck, 2 Grey Heron, 4 Little Egret, 2 Lapwing, 2 Knot and a Mediterranesn Gull, while on the Humber 215 Bar-tailed Godwit were a surprise.

A warm, bright sunny day with a light south westerly.  Watches: 0540-1045.

The day saw the first push of 962 Swift with hopefully some big days to come this summer, while aslo on the move were a Spoonbill, 21 Canada Geese, 2 Little Egret, 10 Cormorant, 2 Curlew, a Lapwing, 21 Ringed Plover and 3 Turnstone out east, a 2cy Glaucous Gull north over the Humber, a Hobby, 3 Sand Martin, 41 Swallow, 12 House Martin, 694 Starling and a Flava Wagtail. 

Maybe the biggest surprise was a stunning male Brambling at the Point, where the Cetti's Warbler continues in daily tour.

A hot sunny day with a light easterly.  Watches: 0535-1050.

Despite it being a fantastic spring for them, it was still hard for the vismiigers at the Warren, not to be frustrated when a Bee-eater flies south calling, but unseen. Otherwise just 22 Swift, 2 Skylark, 21 Swallow and 5 House Martin also flew south.

Other bits noted today were the Whooper Swan, a Pochard, 4 Tufted Duck, 2 Avocet, a Little Gull, 2 Mediterranean Gull and 3 Short-eared Owl around the Beacon ponds area, 2 Curlew Sandpiper on tthe Humber, the Cetti's Warbler still at the Point, a late Willow Warbler in Church field and a Bullfinch at Kew.

Ringing: 1 Wood Pigeon, 1 Willow Warbler, 1 Blackcap, 1 Reed Warbler, 7 Great Tit.

A warm muggy day with rain on and off with a light soth easterly.  Watches: 0500-0940.

A Marsh Warbler trapped and ringed at the Warren was the highlight of the day, a typical late spring migrant. Otherwise it was what you would expect at this time of the year, with the odd bit still moving which included a Teal, 3 Tufted Duck, 51 Common Scoter, a Marsh Harrier, a few Auks, 7 Swift and 39 Swallow with 4 Arctic Tern heading out east.

The best of the rest were mainly around KIlnsea wetlands/Beacon ponds with 5 Shelduck, 7 Gadwall, a Wigeon, 2 Teal, 16 Little Egret, a Lapwing, 1 Whimbrel, a Green Sandpiper, a Little Gull, 2 Common Tern, 3 Cuckoo and a Short-eared Owl.

Ringing: 1 Marsh Warbler, 2 Pied Wagtail, 1 Chaffinch, 1 Linnet.

A warm muggy day with sunny spells and a light easterly.  Watches: 0545-1115.

The spring has slowed down, but some good birds remain including the assumed reappearance of the PURPLE HERON, at Sammy's, eventually flying off towards Skeffling and seen near Patrington Haven later. It is obviously finding the numerous ditches between Spurn and Welwick to its liking. The Golden Oriole was again in the Easington area, mainly around the football pitch and maybe one of the singing Common Rosefinch from Friday was in the Warren to Kew area. 

There was little else happening with even the vismiggers struggling in the slack winds with just 2 Lapwing, 18 Swift, a Sand Martin, 11 Swallow, 7 House Martin and 26 Starling. Over the sea, the best being 76 Common and 2 Fulmar.

Other bits included a Little Gull at Beacon ponds, 2 Cuckoo arounf the area, 2 Bullfinch around Kilnsea and 2 Corn Bunting.

Ringing: 9 Great Tit, 9 Blue Tit, 1 Chiffchaff, 1 Bullfinch.

A hot sunny day with a light easterly.  Watches: 0540-1310.

A superb 2cy male RED-FOOTED FALCON was the highlight of the morning, flying east over Easington, but not located further south, so may have headed north? A Golden Oriole flew north over Easington, a rare occurence away from the peninsula south of long bank and a Bee-eater flew south down the peninsula, continuing the remarkeable run for this species, but how many there has been is another question. A calling, Serin over Kilnsea, wasnt seen, but probably the bird seen in Easington by the gas terminal a while later, in the company os 2 Linnet The few other grounded migrants consisted of a Little-ringed Plover, 2 Cuckoo, a Short-eared Owl, 1 Willow Warbler, 4 Chiffchaff, a Garden Warbler, 1 Black Redstart and a Mealy Redpoll.

Moving were a Teal, 1 Marsh Harrier, a Common Buzzard, 3 Grey Heron, 3 Little Egret, 53 Swift, 2 Kestrel, a Hobby, 4 Jackdaw, 4 Sand Martin, 70 Swallow, 18 House Martin, 8 Starling, 2 Flava Wagtail and 5 Chaffinch. Over the sea were 46 Common Scoter,2 Eider,  2 Red-throated Diver, 3 Fulmar, 3 Manx Shearwater, 13 Gannet, while heading out east 4 Brent Geese, 2 Pale-bellied Brents, 46 Ringed Plover, a Black-tailed Godwit, 1 Little Gull and a Black-headed Gull.

Other bits included 3 Canada Geese and a Golden Plover on the Humber, a Barnacle Goose blogging, the Whooper Swan on Kilnsea wetlands and the Corn Bunting visiting the Warren again.

Polite reminder for all visitors: the Little Tern colony at Beacon Ponds is extremely vulnerable to disturbance. PLEASE STAY WELL AWAY from the fenced area of beach which is clearly signposted, and respect the wardens on duty. Up to 60 birds are present in the colony and can be viewed well from the flood bank.

It was another interesting day, with 2+ Common Rosefinch, singing the standout species (Easington, Beacon Lane, Point), while a Rose-coloured Starling flew south, maybe the bird from the previous day. There were also a flock of 21 Barnacle Geese blogging around the area and 41 Canada Geese heading south. Typically there were few migrants about with a Short-eared Owl, 1 Cuckoo, 2 Chiffchaff, 2 Marsh Warbler, 6 Blackcap, 4 Song Thrush, a Spotted Flycatcher and a Mealy Redpoll. 

In addition to the Starling and Geese moving, the day also had 2 Grey Heron, a Common Buzzard, 1 Lapwing, 21 Swift, 3 Hobby, a Skylark, 41 Swallow, 8 House Martin, a Flava Wagtail and 4 Goldfinch, while some good totals heading out east with 140 Knot, 14 Black-headed Gull and 2 Little Gull.

Other sightings included the long staying Whooper Swan and a blogging Marsh Harrier.

Ringing: 2 Chiffchaff, 1 Whitethroat, 8 Blue Tit.

A mixed day of sea fret and blue skies in the F2-3 eaterly.  Watches: 0500-1450.

Another day and the good birds keep coming. New in today were 2 Marsh Warbler, one trapped at the Warren the most accesible, while a Rose-coloured Starling came in/off the sea at the Point, remaining around the parade ground for the rest of the day and another ringtail Montagu's Harrier flew south down the Humber, then south east out to sea at the narrows. The day also yielded 3 Bee-eater, a single which u-turned, then headed north west up the Humber and the return of the pair, (one with damaged primaries) which had entertained us a few days previously, spending a while at southfield farm, then heading north and sitting on wires north of the gas terminal. 

There was a few extra grounded migrants about including 2 Cuckoo, 2 Willow Warbler, 5 Chiffchaff and 8 Blackcap, plus singles of Garden Warbler, Spotted Flycatcher, Tree Pipit and Mealy Redpoll, with the Cetti's Warbler still singing at the Point. There was also a small influx of Ducks onto Kilnsea wetlands with 3 Shoveler, 2 Wigeon, a Teal and 2 Tufted Duck.

It was a quieter day for movement with a Marsh Harrier, 2 Red Kite, 22 Swift, a Hobby, 141 Swallow, 28 House Martin and a Flava Wagtail, while heading out east were 2 Shelduck, 5 Grey Plover, a Curlew, 4 Kittiwake and an Arctic Skua.

Ringing: 5 Pied Wagtail, 3 Chiffchaff, 1 Blackcap, 1 Garden Warbler, 1 Marsh Warbler, 2 Dunnock, 4 Blue Tit, 2 Chaffinch, 1 Spotted Flycatcher, 1 Goldfinch, 1 Gannet.

A hot and sunny day with a F2-3 easterly.  Watches: 0530-1800.

It was one of those classic late spring Spurn vismig days, with a good mix of unusual species on the move among a decent amount of commoner ones. The day began with a superb adult Rose-coloured Starling south, u-turning back north to Kilnsea, eventually heading off north west. Next up were 5 Bee-eater south during the day (and none of which included the bird with damaged primaries from yesterday), a fantastic full streamer adult Long-tailed Skua heading out east over the triangle and a ringtail Montagu's Harrier south past the Warren over the sea, heading out south east from the narrows. The day also served up a Red Kite, 1 Hobby and a Turtle Dove along with 50 Swift, 5 Jackdaw, 9 Sand Martin, 764 Swallow, 193 House Martin, 2 Flava Wagtail, a Chaffinch, 7 Linnet, 10 Goldfinch and 2 Siskin. Over the sea were a Canada Goose, 6 Tufted Duck, 29 Eider, 37 Common Scoter and 11 Fulmar, while heading out east, 26 Grey Plover, a Bartailed Godwit, 9 Redshank, 31 Kittiwake and 13 Arctic Tern.

Late grounded migrants included an Icterine Warbler singing at the Point, 4 Chiffchaff, 7 Blackcap, 2 Spotted Flycatcher, a Whinchat, 1 Mealy Redpoll and 2 Siskin, while Curlew Sandpiper and Ruff were notable from Kilnsea wetlands.

Ringing: 6 Great Tit, 5 Blue Tit, 1 Whitethroat.

Mostly foggy in the morning, clearing in the afternoon to leave a hot and sunny day with a F2-3 easterly. Watches: 0530-1530.

It was another day of good birds arriving, starting with a Golden Oriole at the Warren, which after perching up in the trees, flew off south being lost as it gained height in to the fog, while a Red-breasted Flycatcher at the narrows quickly moved down to the Potato fields. The birds of the day though were 4+ Bee-eater, with two singles south in the morning, then a pair which arrived from the north around 3pm and after a bit of indescision settled at Southfield farm, making short work of the local dragonfly and bee population, and even seen to mate. They flew north at around 8pm, and maybe dropped into the westmere farm area, where a female Red-backed Shrike was present in the afternoon. In addition to those mentioned above, the few other migrants included 2 Long-eared Owl, a Cuckoo, 3 Willow Warbler, 3 Blackcap, a Mealy Redpoll and a Siskin.

Despite the easterly wind there some decent movement for the time of year with 15 Sand Martin, 382 Swallow, 84 House Martin, a male Grey-headed Wagtail, 7 Flava Wagtail, 6 Linnet and 2 Crossbill.

The Whooper Swan continued its residence on KIlnsea wetlands making it into June.

Ringing: 1 Blackcap, 2 Dunnock, 4 House Sparrow.
