A frosty sunny morning clouding over with a cool light spouth easterly. Watches: 0740-1010, 1350-1520.
There was little change overall with the Black Brant still present and 2 Pale-bellied Brent (Chalk bank and Sammy's) along with much of the ever presents including 580 Wigeon, 52 Mallard, 120 Teal, the Pochard, just 1 Goldeneye, 16 Little Grebe, 4 Little Egret, a Marsh Harrier which caught a Redshank on Holderness field, 113 Lapwing, 187 Black-tailed Godwit, the usual Greenshank, a Barn Owl and 1 Peregrine.
The sea had the recent usual species with 24 Teal, 26 Common Scoter, an Eider, 96 Red-throated Diver, 2 Great Northern Diver, 14 Gannet, 3 Cormorant, 2 Kittiwake, 41 Common Gull, 4 Guillemot, a Razorbill and 12 Auk sp.
Other sightings were a Water Rail at Rose cottage, 3 Woodcock widely scattered, 2 wandering Jackdaw, 31 Magpie in North field and 5 Stonechat.

A grey day with a cold strong north easterly. Watches: 0745-1015.
The sea was maybe quieter than expected with the conditions, but still produced 13 Teal, a drake Velvet Scoter, 4 Common Scoter, 17 Red-throated Diver, 3 Fulmar, 25 Gannet, 9 Kittiwake, a Great Skua, 7 Guillemot, a Razorbill and 48 Auk sp.
The best of the other sightings included the Pochard, 3 Goldeneye, a male Marsh Harrier, 30 Black-tailed Godwit, 3 Woodcock in the triangle, a Short-eared Owl wandering the area, 10 Redwing in Sykes field and a Kingfisher in Churchfield.

A sunny start soon clouded over with rain by early evening driven by a modaerate west north westerly. Watches: 0740-1010.The Kilnseaw etlands
The Kilnsea wetlands area held all the usua; species along with a Pale-bellied Brent among 250 Brents, 10 Shoveler, the Pochard, 3 Goldeneye, a Marsh Harrier, 10 Black-tailed Godwit, 150 Redshank, a Short-eared Owl and 3 Little Egret. Futher sightings included 3 Woodcock, a Medoterranaean Gull on Peter lane, a Kingfisher on canal scrape and 3 Stonechat.
Not much happening over the sea with 2 Brent Geese, 5 Pink-footed Geese, 4 Shoveler, 2 Wigeon, 6 Teal, a Vommon Scoter, 3 Goldeneye, 55 Red-throated Diver, a Fulmar, 2 Gannet, a Cormorant, 5 Guillemot, a Razorbill and 18 Auk sp.
Ringing: 1 Blackbird, 1 Tree Sparrow, 1 House Sparrow.

A grey overcast day, rain in the morning and early evening with a moderate easterly. Watches: 0745-0945.
One of those days when there was not much on offer, the best of the days sightings being the Pochard, 3 Goldeneye, 18 Little Grebe, 159 Black-tailed Godwit and a Short-eared Owl at Kilnsea wetlands and 2 Woodcock and a Mistle Thrush in the Kilnsea area.
The sea was aslo poor having just 14 Red-throated Diver, a Great Crested Grebe, 3 Guillemot and 5 Auk sp.

A damp grey start, rwmining cloudy with sunny spells and a lioght south westerly. Watches: 0745-1015.
It was another, as you were day. The Black Brant and a Pale-bellied Brent remained, as did the Pochard, 3 Goldeneye, 110 Lapwing, 89 Black-tailed Godwit, a Greenshank and 1 Little Egret.
The best of the sea saw 5 Common Scoter, a Red-breasted Merganser and 56 Red-throated Diver moving.
Other sightings were 190 Shelduck on the Humber, a Woodcock, 1 Chiffchaff on Humberside lane and 5 Stonechat widely scattered.

A mild day with sunny spells and a moderate southerly. Watches: 0800-1015.
The Black Brant and Pale-bellied Brent were again present on Holderness field along with 350 Brent Geese with the Pochard and 3 Goldeneye on Beacon ponds. The area also had a Marsh Harrier, 360 Lapwing, a Woodcock, 14 Snipe and a Short-eared Owl.
Moving over the sea were 4 Common Scoter, a Goldeneye, 165 Red-throated Diver, a Great Northern Diver, 1 Cormorant, 37 Herring Gull and 10 Auk sp.

The Humber remained frozen over, but it was a nice sunny day with a string north westerly. Watches: 0745-1015.
Highlights from the day included 3 Pale-bellied Brent on Holderness field, a drake Scaup and a Great Northern Diver south over the sea. Also over the sea were 7 Common Scoter, 43 Red-throated Diver, a Kittiwake, 26 Herring Gull and a Guillemot.
Other bits from the day were the Pochard, 18 Little Grebe, 10 Snipe, the Greenshank and 6 Stonechat.

After another heavy frost which left the Humber mud frozen over it was mostly a sunny day with a light south easterly-north west. Watches: 0745-1015.
The 6 White-fronted Geese made a surprise re-appearance on Kilnsea wetlands witht the Greylag flock then returned north west up the Humber. The same area also holding the Pochard now on Beacon ponds (with Kilnsea Wetlands frozen over) along with 585 Wigeon, 3 Goldeneye and the Greenshank.
A surprise Common Buzzard was trapped in Churchfield, being only the 2nd ever ringed here, while there were still 170 Black-tailed Godwit on the Humber, a Short-eared Owl and Marsh Harrier in the triangle along with 2 Woodcock.
The sea was quiet with just 84 Red-throated Diver, a Great Northern Diver, 1 Gannet, 2 Cormorant, 26 Herring Gull and 2 Guillemot.

A frosty start with blue skies and sun clouding over with a moderate westerly. Watches: 0750-1020.
The best of the seawatching action was a nice 2cy Glaucous Gull heading south, with also 2 Shelduck, 9 Wigeon, 33 Teal, 150 Red-throated Diver, 2 Great Northern Diver, 71 Herring Gull and 2 Auk sp.
There were a fantastic gathering of 470 Black-tailed Godwit on the Humber including quite a few colour-ringed birds. The usual Black Brant remained on Beacon ponds with a Pale-bellied Brent among the 400 Brent Geese, with both Jack Snipe and Greenshank seen here along with 2 Goldeneye. The Pochard remained nearby on Kilnsea wetlands with other sightings in the area included 2 Little Egret, 120 Lapwing, 6 Snipe, 2 Woodcock and a Short-eared Owl on Holderness field.

A day of strong south westerlies and a nice sunny day. Watches: 0750-1020, 1200-1300.
Highlights from the day included a Snow Bunting by the gas terminal, 150 Pintail on the Humber at Sammies, the Black Brant, 3 Pale-bellied Brent with 717 Brent Geese on Long bank marsh, 2 Short-eared Owl in the triangle and a Blackcap on Beacon lane.
Moving over the sea were 21 Teal, 5 Pochard, 4 Common Scoter, 75 Red-throated Diver, 2 Fulmar, 9 Gannet, 84 Herring Gull, 32 Guillemot, a Razorbill and 17 Auk sp.
Other birds of note included 10 Shoveler, the Pochard, 4 Goldeneye, 100 Lapwing and 21 Black-tailed Godwit around Kilnsea wetlands and a Kingfisher at Sammies.

Sunny skies with an increasing strong south-westerly wind. Watches: 0740-0955, 1100-1315.
There was a bit of movement over the sea with some decent totals, the best being 2 Pintail, 9 Teal, a Common Scoter, 61 Red-throated Diver, a Great Northern Diver, 25 Fulmar, 27 Gannet, 106 Kittiwake, 57 Black-headed Gull, a Mediterranean Gull, 84 Guillemot, 11 Razorbill and 117 Auk sp.
Other decent sightings during the day included 600 Brent Geese plus a Pale-bellied Brent, the Pochard, 3 Goldeneye, 500 Redshank and 3 Mediterranean Gull on Kilnsea wetlands and a Peregrine hunting the area.

A stormy horrible day with rain on and off and a strong increasing south westerly. Watches: 0750-1005.
It was not a day to be out and about, the seawatch hut offered some respite, but then again few birds with 2 Pink-footed Geese, 12 Teal, 2 Velvet Scoter, 4 Common Scoter, 16 Red-throated Diver, 5 Gannet, a Cormorant and 3 Guillemot.
Kilnsea wetlands held the usuals along with a Pochard, 4 Goldeneye and a Common Scoter plus 70 Black-tailed Godwit. Other bits of interest included 2 Jack Snipe in Sykes field along with 6 Snipe, a Chiffchaff at Rose cottage and 10 Redwing in Churchfield.

The best of todays sightings mainly limited to the Kilnsea wetlands area with the Pochard, 4 Goldeneye, a Common Scoter, 90 Lapwing, 176 Black-tailed Godwit, 190 Curlew and 4 Mediterranean Gull.

A dull day with sunny spells and a moderate westerly wind. Watches: 0745-1040.
A small bit of movement saw 4 Whooper Swan head south, along with 15 Wigeon, 2 Tufted Duck, 6 Common Scoter, 86 Red-throated Diver, 2 Cormorant, 3 Gannet, 2 Guillemot and 22 Auk sp.
The Black Brant re-appeared again with 850 Brent Geese and 10 Pink-footed Geese at Sammies and the Common Scoter, 3 Goldeneye and Pochard were all still on Kilnsea wetlands, along with 170 Black-tailed Godwit while 8 Woodcock were a good count in the area.

Blue skies and sunny with a modarate westerly. Watches: 0800-1000.
Highlights during the day included 4 Velvet Scoter south over the sea, 2 Jack Snipe (Warren and Clubley's) and a Snow Bunting at Chalk bank plus a decent count of 8 Snipe. The WEBS counts also saw 218 Lapwing on Easington straight, 190 Curlew and 490 Redshank , but only 43 Grey Plover.
Kilnsea wetlands yet again held some good totals for a relatively small water body with 216 Greylag Geese, 745 Wigeon, 109 Teal, 2 Pintail, 40 Mallard, 9 Shoveler, a Tufted Duck, 1 Pochard, 2 Goldeneye , a Greenshank and 198 Black-tailed Godwit with a Red-breasted Merganser on the Humber.

A frosty start, then heavy rain easing to sunny spells by late afternoon with a strong westerly. Watches: 0755-1015.
There were some interesting counts and sightings during the day, the Common Buzzard sat on the feeders at Kew again, 288 Black-tailed Godwit on Holderness field and also 676 Wigeon in the area. The Pochard, Common Scoter and 3 Goldeneye all remained, but no sign of the Black Brant, though 650 Brent Geese were still about.
Other sightings included a Short-eared Owl and Mediterranean Gull at Beacon ponds, 2 Woodcock in Churchfield and a Barn Owl at Kilnsea wetlands.

A grey cold overcast day with a moderate W wind. Watches: 0755-1010.
The snow inland brought a small dislacement of birds to the Spurn area, with a nice winter count of 14 Woodcock plus 550 Starling, 30 Blackbird, 40 Fieldfare, 16 Redwing and 6 Song Thrush, while a Common Buzzard was an unusual sight sat on the bird feeders at Kew!.
The Black Brant remained local along with 3 Pale-bellied Brent amongst 850 Brent Geese plus the usual good totals of Wildfowl on Kilnsea wetlands including 18 Shoveler, 503 Wigeon, a Pintail, 113 Teal, a Pochard, 1 Common Scoter and 3 Goldeneye, along with 19 Little Grebe, 97 Lapwing, 78 Black-tailed Godwit, 185 Redshank and a Greenshank.

constant rain all day with a moderate northerly. Watches: 0800-1000.
Little seen today due to the awful weather, even the relatively sheltered areas at Kilnsea wetlands and the seawatch hide were quiet. The best of KW were a Pochard, 3 Goldneye, a Common Scoter and 70 Black-tailed Godwit with the sea producing 2 Eider, a Red-throated Diver and 2 Gannet.

Frosty start with the odd sunny spell and a moderate north westerly. Watches: 0800-1000, 1430-1530.
The best of the days asction was centred around Kilnsea wetlands with the Black Brant still present with 2 Pale-bellied Brent among 850 Brents. This area also attracted a Pochard, 2 Goldeneye, a Common Scoter, a Marsh Harrier, 1 Merlin, 78 Lapwing, a Greenshank and 49 Black-tailed Godwit with a Woodcock nearby in Kilnsea.
The sea had an Eider, 4 Common Scoter, 25 Red-throated Diver, a Gannet, 3 Cormorant, 41 Guillemot, 2 Razorbill and 16 Auk sp.

A day of sunny spells and a moderate north westerly. Watches: 0750-1020.
Yet again the 800 strong flock of Brent Geese held an adult Black Brant and at least 1 Pale-bellied Brent and the Pochard, Common Scoter and 2 Goldneeye all remained on Kilnsea wetlands with all the usual Wildfowl. Also present were the wntering Greenshank and 42 Black-tailed Godwit.
The sea was quiet with just 5 Common Scoter, 10 Red-throated Diver, a Kittiwake and an Auk sp.
The best of the other sightings included a Woodcock at Driftwood, 1 Mediterranean Gull iand a Short-eared Owl n the triangle and both Peregrine and Merlin over the Humber.

A grey cloudy day, rain in the evening with a modreate south westerly. Watches: 0800-1020.
The best of todays sightings were the re-appearance of 20 Whooper Swan at Sammies on the Humber, which have largely spent their time up near Skeffling. Other decent sightings from the day were a Pale-bellied Brent with 450 Brent (including the leucistic bird), a Pochard and 2 Goldeneye on Kilnsea wetlands, 2 Jack Snipe (holderness field and Sammies), a Woodcock at the Point and 7 Mediterranean Gull and a Kingfisher at Sammies.

Mink at Kilnsea wetlands. John Hewitt. An unwelcome visitor, while infrequently seen the damage to local wildlife is more telling. Since they arrived, Water Voles have vanished and populations of Coot (and Moorhen) have declined,.

The usual Black Brant was present with 500 Brent Geese and a Pale-bellied Brent at Kilnsea wetlands along with a Pochard, a Common Scoter, 2 Goldeneye and 6 Mediterranean Gull plus 18 Little Grebe and a Greenshank on Beacon ponds.
The sea had little to offer, an Eider the highlight.

A cold frosty day with blue skies and a light south westerly. Watches: 0750-1005, 1310-1520.
The day was similar to recent ones, but with the return of the 6 White-fronted Geese again and the Black Brant on Kilnsea wetlands among a good sized flock of 860 Brent Geese and 2 Pale-bellied Brent. Nearby 180 Pintail were again at Sammies on the Humber along with 1450 Oystercatcher. Other bits of note in this area were a Pochard and a Goldeneye on Kilnsea wetlands and the Greenshank on Easington lagoon.
Over the sea were 10 Mallard, an Eider, 3 Common Scoter, 21 Red-throated Diver, a Great Northern Diver, 1 Fulmar, 21 Common Gull and 5 Auk sp.
Other sightings included 6000 Knot at the Narrows, a Little Owl at Long bank, 120 Carrion Crow at Sammies with a Marsh Harrier, 2 Peregrine and a Merlin hunting the area.

A cold frosty day with blue skies a nd a light south westerly. Watches: 0755-1130.
Out of the blue the 6 White-fronted Geese re-appeared on Kilnsea wetlands, while nearby the Black Brant was present with 700 Brent Geese on Beacon ponds. A fantastic count of 201 Pintail were at Sammies where a Red Kite flew west.
Over the sea it was standard fare with 3 Wigeon, 2 Teal, 3 Eider, a Velvet Scoter, 2 Common Scoter, 12 Red-throated Diver and 3 Kittiwake.
Other bits of note concerned 6 Woodcock (4 together at cliffe farm), 2 Short-eared Owl at Kilnsea wetlands and a Kingfisher, 60 Tree Sparrow, 40 Yellowhammer and 15 Reed Bunting at Sammies.

A sunny start gave way to cloud and wintery showers with a light/moderate north easterly. Watches: 0750-1045.
Not much change overall, so some counts were returned for commoner speciess in the area, totals of 50 Blackbird, 33 Fieldafre, 15 Redwing and 3 Song Thrush along with a Woodcock, 3 Snipe, a Short-eared Owl, 4 Stonechat, a Chiffchaff, 2 Grey Wagtail, 23 Pied Wagtail and 18 Tree Sparrow
Kilnsea wetlands had 13 Mute Swan, 18 Shoveler, 500 Wigeon, 67 Mallard, 51 Teal, a Common Scoter, 1 Goldeneyey, 12 Little Grebe, 4 Little Egret, a Marsh Harrier, 70 Lapwing, 40 Black-atailed Godwit and a Greenshank.
The sea was much subdued with 3 Eider, 7 Common Scoter, 17 Red-throated Diver, 3 Fulmar, 3 Cormorant, 6 Kittiwake and 2 Auk sp.

Sunny spells with wintery showers and a cool moderate/strong northeasterly. Watches: 0750-1545.
There were few Thrushes about after the small influx last week, but a Woodcock was by the sewage works and 3 Snow Bunting remained at the Breach.
The sea started to settle down, but a few bits of note were seen including a Shag, 22 Eider, 21 Common Scoter, a Velvet Scoter, 40 Red-throated Diver, 12 Fulmar, 6 Gannet, 30 Kittiwake, a Great Skua, 3 Guillemot, a Razorbill and 7 Auk sp.
As usual good totals of Wildfowl on Kilnsea wetlands with 25 Shoveler, 500 Wigeon, 43 Mallard, 154 Teal, 2 Goldeneye, a Marsh Harrier, 66 Black-tailed Godwit, 250 Redshank, a Greenshank and 21 Mediterranean Gull.

Sunny spells and wintery showers with a cold north-easterly. Watches: 0750-1030, 1415-1530.
The day after a bird race, typically record several species not seen on the day. A ringtail Hen Harrier at Beacon ponds, 2 Velvet Scoter and a Goosander south bound over the sea and a Kingfisher all came into that catergory.
In addition to those mentioned above, it was quite decent for other species over the sea with a Wigeon, 19 Teal, 12 Common Scoter, 48 Eider, 46 Red-throated Diver, 16 Fulmar, 14 Gannet, 169 Kittiwake, 5 Guillemot and 100 Auk.sp.

Sunny start, clouding over with rain and a cool Modarate north easterly. Watches: 0800-1000, 1015-1315.
It was the Michael Clegg memorial bird race today and at least 3 teams were out in the Spurn area raising funds for Hen Harrier protection. Totals of 67 and 69 were quite respectable as teams took it easy.
There were a few different bits recorded during the day, 8 Snow Bunting the highlight at the Breach and the Black Brant still in the area, with other decent sightings of an Arctic Skua and Short-eared Owl kept the lists ticking over. Other bits recorded, which are easily missed included 2 Goldeneye, 3 Common Buzzard, 2 male Marsh Harrier, 72 Black-tailed Godwit, 3 Mediterranean Gull, a Merlin and 2 Peregrine, while fortunately there are still a few Thrushes about with 10 Fieldfare, 15 Redwing and 3 Song Thrush which can sometimes also be tricky..
The sea boosted lists with 2 Eider, 16 Red-throated Diver, 5 Fulmar, 82 Kittiwake, a Great Skua, 7 Guillemot and 2 Razorbill.

After some heavy overnight rain, a frosty morning with a moderate north westerly and showers. Watches: 0750-1010.
Better weather and an intersting mix of species were recorded. The Black Brant re-appeared on the Humber at Sammies, where there were also 111 Pintail and 16 Mediterranean Gull. Nearby there were 286 Greylag Geese around Kilnsea wetlands plus a Goldeneye, a marsh Harrier, 130 Lapwing, 46 Black-tailed Godwit and 250 Redshank.
Over the sea 374 Pink-footed Geese, 5 Wigeon, 3 Teal, 30 Common Scoter, a Goldeneye, a Great Northern Diver, 29 Red-throated Diver, 2 Gannet, 4 Guillemot, 2 Razorbill and 8 Auk sp.

WELCOME TO 2021.
Bright start then a bit of a horrible wet day. Watches: 0745-1015.
The year got off to a good start with the re-appearance? of the 6 White-fronted Geese on Kilnsea wetlands, where there seemed to be a general decline in Wildfowl numbers, with just 367 Wigeon, 45 Teal and 11 Shoveler.
Over the sea 7 Common Scoter, a Great Northern Diver, 21 Red-throated Diver, a Gannet, 1 Cormorant,a Guillemot, 2 Razorbill and 2 Auk sp.
The best of the rest were a Mistle Thrush over Kilnsea, the Greenshank at Beacon ponda and 2 Stonechat at the Gas terminal.
